steve_lee Posted October 31, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a very little used MATE 28-35-50 E49 with 6 bit coding. How can I work out how to price it for sale. There are no others that I can see for sale and I can’t find a history of sales. Do I contact a retailer? Advertisement Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Hi steve_lee, Take a look here Pricing a lens for sale.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ropo54 Posted October 31, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2017 You might check eBay for listing prices and completed sales. Also, check with a Leica store as to the trade value; Leica Coral Gables will offer 70-80% of retail value depending on whether you want to cash out or trade on gear. Ecar Posted October 31, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2017 You won't get a valuation on this forum... Check sold prices on the Bay or past results at reputable auction houses, take out their commission, set your price.
steve_lee Posted October 31, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted October 31, 2017 You won't get a valuation on this forum... Check sold prices on the Bay or past results at reputable auction houses, take out their commission, set your price. I'm not looking for a valuation here, but help to find where to get a valuation. Not sure how to find sold prices on eBay. Thanks for your help though.
a.noctilux Posted October 31, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 31, 2017 How about this link: https://www.ebay.fr/sch/Objectifs-filtres/78997/i.html?_sop=3&_nkw=leica+tri-elmar+28-35-
wda Posted October 31, 2017 Share #6 Posted October 31, 2017 Ask your Leica dealer for indicative prices for purchase or trade-in. That would give you a benchmark figure.
Ecar Posted October 31, 2017 Share #7 Posted October 31, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure how to find sold prices on eBay. Search for item (eg, "Tri-Elmar 28-35-50"), go to "Advanced" (top right corner of screen), check "Sold Listings", hit "Search" again.
jdlaing Posted October 31, 2017 Share #8 Posted October 31, 2017 Go to eBay and enter Tri Elmar in the search box. Look at the buy it now prices and match the condition of your lens. That should give you fair value.

Jeff S Posted October 31, 2017 Share #10 Posted October 31, 2017 Various dealers have them for sale, e.g., Leica Miami... https://leicastoremiami.com/collections/used-m-lenses/products/used-leica-tri-elmar-m-28-35-50mm-f-4-0-asph-e49-v2-6-bit-2015-leica-cla?variant=2576616357926 You could call the used dept rep (Josh at Miami) to discuss current demand / pricing strategy. Of course dealers can often command higher prices due to service and warranty. And they will buy for less for obvious profit margin (Popflash offers 80% of sale). But this can at least give you a sense of the market. Jeff

Herr Barnack Posted November 4, 2017 Share #14 Posted November 4, 2017 Find out what its trade in value is, then double that. That is pretty much how dealers price used gear - offer 50% of the retail price as a trade in value.

Herr Barnack Posted November 6, 2017 Share #17 Posted November 6, 2017 Was offered £2500 by a dealer yesterday. The actual value couldn't possibly be £5000. Upon further reflection, £5000 does seem high - the trade-in value x2 rule of thumb does not always hold up. Depending on the lens in question, sometimes trade-in x2 - 10-20% is more accurate. Pricing for the used market is an inexact science. Based on current ebay listings ( https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2499334.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X+Leica+96020+28-35-50mm+f%3A4+E49+Tri+Elmar.TRS0&_nkw=+Leica+96020+28-35-50mm+f%3A4+E49+Tri+Elmar&_sacat=625 ), I would think a selling price of around £3800 would be within reason. JMHO though...
