terrycym Posted October 27, 2017 Share #21 Posted October 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) DxO acquired Nik for the technology, specifically, U-Point. The only other tech that Nik has that DxO doesn't do Is HDR. That's been promised by DxO for years, maybe it'll happen now, or more likely, next year as they've been busy with the release of PhotoLab which uses an update of U-Point. My bet is that Nik won't last 2 more years as a separate product line, it makes no sense
Advertisement Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Hi terrycym, Take a look here Death (and resurrection) of Nik. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Simone_DF Posted October 31, 2017 Share #22 Posted October 31, 2017 My bet is that Nik won't last 2 more years as a separate product line, it makes no sense Well, I think the majority of Nik users are people using it as a plugin for Photoshop, so it makes sense to keep it standalone in order to expand the user base. And once people get used to the U-Point technology, maybe they'll give another look at DxO Photolab and switch.

Not that I cant do the same thing in LR or PS .... but U point is a great tool. I am currently looking at DoX to see what they are going to do the the newly acquired tech.....I'm sure I'll buy it.....cant wait to see what they do with Silver Effects Pro too FWIW I'm also very seriously thinking of switching from LR and PS 6 to CC, its time and Adobe has done there part refining many of my old tools. LocalHero1953 Posted October 31, 2017 Share #24 Posted October 31, 2017 So, anyone here using DxO Photolab? How does it compare with LR and C1 as a raw converter, or with PS as an image editor? If you add Nik to the package, does it make it compelling?

Paul I have there trial pack on my laptop..............the only thing that I have used is the film Pack and they have some quite nice presets in there but to be honest I haven't had much chance to play around with it. If I do decide to get it I will only get the Film pack $49 bucks as I just use PScc to edit my pictures Neil
terrycym Posted October 31, 2017 Share #26 Posted October 31, 2017 I use PL It's better than ACR in my opinion. The modules do a great job regarding lens correction. The noise reduction works really well. It's easy to pull detail out of your images. The new features allow you to make local corrections.
Simone_DF Posted November 1, 2017 Share #27 Posted November 1, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've tried for a few minutes the other day. One of my problems is that PL doesn't have a large database for lens correction. For example the only Voigtlander lens in M mount I could find is the 10mm! For example the only Voigtlander lens in M mount I could find is the 10mm! You could send a request to DxO asking if they could create a module for your camera / lend combination. They've added modules on my request. So long as they cover your body then you can still use PL but you'll have to use manual lens distortion corrections

For me, DxO - C1 - ACR

terrycym Posted November 3, 2017 Share #34 Posted November 3, 2017 Seconded. For me, DxO - C1 - ACR DxO are pretty amenable to feature requests from the users and they provide feature updates on a regular basis. This is because, I believe, they see themselves competing with Adobe & CI and they're keen o be at least as functional and be distinctive.. They offered 8 point distortion correction way before ACR and their Prime Noise Reduction is bloody good - can be a bit slow though. They amount of detail you can pull out of an under-exposed image is pretty impressive. Have a look at their tutorial videos on their web site for a taster. Verteidiger Posted November 4, 2017 Share #36 Posted November 4, 2017 Looking for something else but Lightroom/Photoshop now too I tried DxO (Optics Pro 11, which they are offering for a free trial at the moment), but my Monochrom-files, my X2-files, my M10-files, and all my Fuji-files (except from the very first X100) cannot be read at all. Did that change with DxO Photo Lab or will that change in the near future?
Luke_Miller Posted November 4, 2017 Share #37 Posted November 4, 2017 I did.............whats a C1 C1 is shorthand for Phase One's Capture One program. C1 is what I use for most of my raw conversions and is comparable to Lightroom's Develop Module (or Adobe Camera Raw) in functionality. Phase One created C1 to process files from its digital backs and then expanded it to cover most other digital cameras excluding other maker's medium format bodies.
