It functions exactly like the snap case, just made from pure wood. You have to take it off to replace batteries and sd cards. I have 128gb sd card, and I don't usually need to change batteries. I bought the leather case before this one and didn't like the feel, weight, and look of it too much. I suppose I can always carve out a battery release hole at the bottom if ever need too. How did the plastic case feel? I was too afraid that it'd make the camera feel like a happy meal toy. It looked nice though.

Leica T w 135mm f4 elmar (1961).  

 

This lens performs beautifully, is light weight, and can be picked up quite inexpensively on the pre-owned market.  (Mine was purchased from a seller on the Leica Buy/Sell forum).
