Many thanks!  @Ko.Fe. is right of course but I didn't study a dof calculator, choosing instead set a virtually infinity focus, a low aperture and higher shutter speed.  There's less thought required when it's the middle of the day and the light's good and my guessing (on this occasion) got lucky.  The advantage I had here in getting the shot was seeing a load of youngsters in the distance skating about, so I had time to prepare before taking the shot, waiting till the skater rode into the middle of the frame, then.. 'snap'.  The dream for me is being able to have the ability to prepare and get a shot like that very almost instantaneously.  Not quite there yet.

I forgot which 35 your were using. If it is with focus tab, all you have to do for subject at this great distance is to move the focus tab to the right.

It is funny to read rf lenses review on dpreview comments. SLR, mirrorless crowd is winning about focus tab presence:)
