Leica R APO 100 macro elmarit on M10

 I am thinking about getting an R APO 100 macro elmarit for macro and close-up work with my M10. Any one out there using  this combo?

M10 + Visoflex 020 + adapter R to M + Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R 2.8/100mm : heavy but nice combo.

Results are top if one can live with the stiff/long focus throw of the "AMER" (in french "amer" means "bitter" ).

When the 1.1 Elpro is fixed on that combo, tripod may be required to use.

 

Here is a test

forgot to put in the lens type that M10 allowed

bougainvillea is well know for their red hues,

that the apo rendering shines for subtle hues

I ask this because I use focus stacking technique where spot  focus accuracy is paramount. I guess the stiff/long focus throw is a plus in this regard.

Teriffic combo for image quality.  STA 1 allows mounting lens on a tripod, not the body so things balance.  Lots of luck finding one.

 

My only objection is the so called visoflex , electronic ones.    They do not focus as well as a real one because the detail is not there so they add focus peaking aid.   The worst "feature" is the slow refresh rate common to Leica mirrorless including the SL which gives one a view like a 1920 movie where the moving actors are all jerky.  Makes me dizzy.  You may be different.  Panning or recomposing makes the image jump in small steps.

 

There is always live view which Is better,  but I have not worked with it.   Original visos are superb devices and I am keeping mine, all 4 or 5.

As Tobey Bilek said, EVF is not "real time", even if the 020 is better than previous, time lag is there.

 

The focus accuracy can be or not good enough depend on the subject contrast.

With optical finder (real old Visoflex III), I feel more confidence: may it be decades old habit.

 

I have never used stack focusing, so I don't know if the focus accuracy is good enough.

With fixed apparatus, and with the "moving around of focus point" allowed by M10, it must be easy to focus x10 magn., but I think that "focus peaking" this time is no help.

I use it quite frequently, although I now prefer the 60mm macro R.

Both are great on the M10

Thanks for the info guys. I tihink I will take the plunge and try to find a mint one at a good price. Maybe I'II get the Elpro too. STA 1 seems a good idea to balance the combo, otherwise to nose heavy.

When you use the Leica R-Adapter M you'll find a tripod mount which you can attach to the adapter. It's position in the middle between camera and lens does balance the whole combination quite well. Unfortunately the adapter does not allow an easy change from vertical to horizontal - unlike the OUBIO for the Visoflex.

I have the 100mm and have been taking it out for time to time but it's not my favorite lens. I am determined to let it go as soon as I find a late production 60mm.

Thanks again guys. I have finally taken the plunge and here it is. A nearly mint copy with the Novoflex adapter. I made some test this morning and very pleased so far.

I had both the 60mm and 100mm MARO R lenses when I had my R8s and R9s. Both were superb and amazing...

You will have a lot of fun with either on your M10.
