Thanks, Colin.  I wish I could say it was a brilliant bit of photographic artistry, but it was an overexposure.  I had been on manual and forgot to adjust, but I made the most out of it because the effect reminded me of Robert Capa's D-Day mal-processed photographs.

just as an aside, Robert Capa's  D-Day photos weren't 'mal-processed'. He lost his nerve (I would too!), and flunked the assignment so the processing mishap story was a cover up....one which is still perpetuated today by Magnum, ICP, etc.

Citation, please?

Interesting.  Not sure I'm ready to buy it because this shakes the foundation of veracity in photojournalism.  "Fake news?"  It will be interesting to delve into these writings by Coleman.  But even if Coleman's version is true, the Capa photographs are images of soldiers landing on a beach on D-Day under fire (otherwise what wounds are the medics treating?), which requires an inordinate amount of courage by both soldier and journalist.  Journalists can leave the field of battle whenever they want; soldiers do not have that luxury.
