Thinking about buying the TL Leather Case..

How slim and tight does the leather tl case fit the body? How does it feel in the hand and use? If anybody can upload any pictures, it would be greatly helpful and appreciated! It is $150 so it is a tough decision to make.

I just purchased the Leica leather cover. My camera is silver and I chose the cemento color.

It is very nice quality, protects the body nicely, adds a bit of bulk to the size of the camera and a bit of grip to it. It has a battery door which is a necessary in my opinion.

My only gripe is that it has a screw in place for a tripod and it is embedded in the leather skin so that it can not be removed by unscrewing, thereby requiring one to attach/reattach the camera to it each time the case is removed. A bit of an annoyance.

Yes, I would buy it again. It saves the camera from some nicks and scratches.

There are a couple of very inexpensive chinese products as options on eBay, but they can take up to a month for shipping and I wanted my TL2 protected sooner.

Also, I'd recommend the Leica LCD plastic screen protector. It too is ridiculously expensive for what it is, but it works very well.

I had meant to say that the embedded screw must be attached to where the tripod mounts, or the case will sit awkwardly on the camera body.

If you don't mind spending a little more, look at Arte Di Mano cases. They are primo but well worth it if you love your camera and plan to keep long term. They have a little bump on the grip too which makes the T very comfortable. I have these on my T, Q, and M.

I am using a black Gariz case. The leather is of a good quality and not too thick. The price is reasonable. The only thing that bathers me is I have to remove the case to change the battery. But other than that, I like it very much.

ropo54: Thanks for the pictures at all those angles! I never imagined that the case added that much to the bottom of the camera. I guess they did it that way so the screw at the bottom is within the case rather than an exposed visual eyesore. I really like that design choice. How does the battery flap latch on the bottom? Is it magnetic? Also, does it fit pretty snug to the camera or is it one of those things where if you shake your hand a bit, you can feel the camera shaking around in the case? Sorry for all these questions haha. I just bought a tl2 and I am so excited!

Belle123: Arte Di mano is a good brand.

Learner: Yeah, the aluminum will definitely become cold during winter, which is one of the reasons I wanted the case. I can imagine that there are some insulation benefits during warmer months too. My aluminum iphone sucks the heat up without a case on.

Louis: I never heard of gariz. Thanks for the pics!

As to the Leica case, yes, it fits snugly and nicely. The latch is magnetic so remains closed without flopping.

Belle 123 is correct that about the Arte Di Mano; they are the top of the line cases. The leathers are gorgeous (Hermes leathers), the craftsmanship is top notch, and if you can find one and are willing to spend for it, that is the nicest one available. They are expensive, and do make certain that if you find one that it does have the battery door option.  There are just not that many available and/or you may have a 4-6 week wait to receiving it. I would think they are priced around $400, but I have not checked. My Leica store had none in stock and did not know when the next shipment might be coming in.

Gariz cases are made extremely well, too, and have very nice leathers. My only hesitance about the Gariz would be that they seem to cover less of the camera's body. Otherwise a very nice quality case.

Good luck with your choice. I suspect you are going to be quite happy with the TL2.

I have the TL case in red leather. It is a snug fit improving the hand grip of the camera. You can change the battery without removing the case but you must remove the case to access the SD card, use a tripod, or use the holster. The case strap is relatively comfortable on the neck but a bit narrow and stiff for true comfort. Pluses outnumber minuses.

The case I have fits perfectly snug against the body except for the edges because the leather has its own shape.

The screw at the bottom is soft metal, and will be knicked if you use a coin or metal object to unscrew it. You can already see a knick on mine. It is also hard to unscrew with your fingers alone, so you will most likely be using a coin..

The aluminum camera is not slippery in my opinion. If you usually drop your phone, the leather can add more grip. However, the TL2 is such a minimalist camera already that it's handgrip curve is as small as it can functionally be, which means the added thickness of the leather makes it so there is less to hold onto because it diminishes how deep that curve is. I wish there were stick-on skins for the TL2 instead like they have for phones.
