marcg Posted September 15, 2017 Share #1  Posted September 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not on the verge of having an attack of GAS.  I'm simply interested in understanding why someone might want simply to buy the head of a lens.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leitz-11950Z-135mm-f-4-Elmar-silver-head-only-RARE-/132307124619?hash=item1ece1e818b:g:nZQAAOSwX61ZCeeh  Thanks
Advertisement Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Hi marcg, Take a look here Elmar 135 question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted September 15, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted September 15, 2017 Perhaps because he already has the rest? As far as I know, you can use the head of this and other lenses with a separately available tube, with the Visoflex or the bellows. You could also be a collector, and it's clearly labelled as being rare.
spydrxx Posted September 15, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted September 15, 2017 Pretty easy. The head mounts in its focusing mount and then on a Visoflex as well as other adapters which can be used on other cameras. For instance, I have an adapter for the head/focusing mechanism which mounts on my Nikon digital camera, allowing the full range of focus from infinity to its closest focus point. A great way to get the most out of this fine lens.

Clearly so; the head seems even at its best on a Visoflex bellows, about from 1:2 to 2:1 and in my experience certainly better than the macro-elmar 90 in that domain
luigi bertolotti Posted September 16, 2017 Share #6 Â Posted September 16, 2017 Actually the description of the ebay listing is unprecise : the item is not "head only" : is the Elmar 135 Short Mount (listed indeed as 11950 Z) for Visoflex; Leitz listed also the "real" head only as 11951 N, for mounting on bellows, and listed also the two lens mounts only (short - 14071 and long - 14072 in BM / 14073 in SM) The lens head in itself, is as always unscrewable from the complete item : to say, 11950 = 11951+14071
tobey bilek Posted September 16, 2017 Share #7 Â Posted September 16, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) One can not use the head on just any 135 RF focus mount. Â They are matched at the factory to obtain proper focus. Â The last 4 digits of the serial are scribed inside the focus mount as proof. Â Holds for any long focus lens designed to be used with visoflex and RF plus Summicron 50 version 2 & 3. Â Â

Ronazle Posted September 27, 2017 Share #12 Â Posted September 27, 2017 I would imagine the short mount lenses other than the early 135 Hector are all quite collectible for those who are so inclined. Certainly, they were manufactured in very small numbers after the SLR revolution(s). Some years ago I bought a short mount 135mm Elmarit for Viso use, or so I convinced myself thereof. Regards, ron Probably the Elmarit 135 f2,8 is one of the lenses that is most rare in the "lenshead" only version... : lenshead is unscrewable, and it can be focused on Viso II/III through the short Mount 16492 (the same used for the Summicron 90 lens head) , but until sometime ago I thought that the lenshead only had even not been made orderable ... but then discovered that catalogs of mid '60s do report, together with the Elmarit 135 code 11829, the lens head only as 11828... me too don't think they did sell many...
