Canon 50mm 1.2 focusing issues

I'm after some advice as I'm having some real frustration in getting an old screw thread mount Canon 50mm 1.2 lens to focus accurately through the rangefinder on a M10.

It is focussing beyond the point of what should be accurate according to the rangefinder patch.

I've tried a few different adapters from cheap Chinese ones and also invested in a genuine Leica adapter too, in fact I've probably as much money invested in the adapters as I have in the lens.

I enjoy using the lens with the EVF but I'm happier using a rangefinder and that's how I'd love to use this lens.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Send it to a competent technician with whatever adapter you expect to use and ask him to adjust the lens focus.

That's what I do - and it works most of the time.

Thanks for the reply do you have any recommendations that are in the UK or Europe.

Unless your lens is perfectly clean, you might as well consider a full CLA.

The Canon 50/1.2 is known for developing a recurring haze/fogging problem - possibly due to the lubricants used.

Mine is currently with Will to fix this...

my 50 1.2 has been with a technician for the last 3 years as I await for him to fix the focus issue... several failed attempts and I am still waiting. On mine when you tilted the les you could hear an element within moving around... this thread reminds me that I better call him again.

Who do you use in Adelaide Jaques?

why Charles Bridgewood of course... have you come across him? He can repair some things very fast... other things get lost in the piles of cameras, camera parts, mocroscopes- and other odds and ends. He was trained by Hasselblad- and an official Leica microscope repairman- also proficient with electronics...
