Evo Posted August 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got the M10 on Fri. and it seems like in a few shots with highlights that are 2-3 stops over clip I get these bands that bleed out from them as dark lines. (Yes I know I'm not supposed to overexpose that much but sometimes there are 18K's pointed at windows, and I do have lower exposed frames that are fine). I read a thread earlier suspecting that this was the highlights bleeding into the black balance area because of an improper sensor seal. So is this just an M10 thing or do I need to demand a replacement? Other than that I'm smitten with the camera! Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Hi Evo, Take a look here Is this normal? (M10 Highlight bleed). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
digitalfx Posted August 17, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2017 I haven't noticed the issue...but the M10 has more latitude in the shadows, so I tend to protect the highlights.
brill64 Posted August 17, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2017 It looks more like you've blown the highlights by overexposing to me. Its not the camera at fault. You have to take care of your highlights. With this kind of interior, try underexposing by 2/3 - 1 stop, thereby retaining your highlights. Then bring up your shadows in post. UliWer Posted August 17, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2017 Do you mean the vertikal dark line which runs between the man's hand and the buttons of the jacket? And two others running over his shoulder and his back? I havn't seen this yet. Are they green in colour?
anickpick Posted August 17, 2017 Share #5 Posted August 17, 2017 I have not seen vertical bands like this and have not been able to replicate them on my M10. I think there might be something wrong with your sensor.
adan Posted August 17, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2017 There was this previous thread: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/268864-m10-banding-in-high-contrast-setting/ From the looks of it, there have been four examples similar to your problem (thick bands in the direction paralleling the long dimension of the image - so vertical in vertical pictures, horizontal in horizontal pictures) from a bright light source. The final concensus seems to be that it means a faulty individual camera, that needs replacement by Leica. BUT - give it a few more tries in challenging lighting, with both correct and incorrect (blown) exposure. I have not seen it with my M10, but I haven't shot in exactly that situation. Evo Posted August 26, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted August 26, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Update: Took it into the Leica store LA and confirmed this is not kosher performance. Gonna see if B&H can replace within a week or so if not it's off to NJ.
