Summicron Mk1 vs Summilux Mk1

I have a Summicron Mk1 on my Leicaflex Std and one on my Leicaflex SL.  According to the Leica Wiki, the Summilux Mk1 is lighter than the Summicron Mk1.  How can this be when the Lux is f/1.4 and the cron is f/2 (and usually faster lenses are heavier than slower lenses).  Am I missing something?

Summicron-R 35mm I order 11227 : 510g / 1.12 lb

Summilux-R order 11143 : 685g / 24.2 oz  (no version there, only one kind)

The 50mm Summilux is always bigger and  heavier then the 50mm Summicron, in both M & R.  Stay with the Summicron unless you need the extra stop of speed.

I bought my Summicron R v1 (Black, 2-cam) in 1969. I also have a Summilux R v1 (also Black, 2-cam) So I just weighed them:

 

Black Summicron R v1:  Weight without hood: 311g   Weight with hood: 335g

Black Summilux R v1:    Weight without hood: 405g   Weight with hood: 452g

 

The Wiki doesn't specify the material of their Summicron 1. The first ones (original Leicaflex) were chrome plated brass, and would be heavier than the black (anodized aluminum). The chrome ones messed up the light meter of the original Leicaflex (non-TTL) by reflections, so black became standard.

 

Both of mine are Wetzlar versions, two cam. I guess there might be slight variations in Canada versions, or different cam arrangements.

As I am too lazy to get my lenses out and weigh them. I just looked at the official "Handbook of the Leica System 2000/2001"

and this is what it says:

 

Summilux 50/1.4 E60: 0.490kg

Summicron 50/2: 0.290kg

 

Weight as shown in the pics without any covers.

 

If you insist, I can weigh them for you.
