The only reason I post this mundane scene is because of the lens, a Summicron 50 version IV. Shooting lately with a 'lux 50 aspherical. It has delivered wonderful images. But I thought I'd go out with the 'cron. This one was shot at f/5.6. The textures are amazing. Camera JPG adjusted slightly with Fast Stone.

Early 1970s non-AI Micro-Nikkor 55/3.5 plus Nikon M2 tube enabling 1:1 magnification; Novoflex Nikon F to Leica M, and Leica M to T adapters with Leica SL 601; two one pound coins standing vertically on small cardboard box covered with self adhesive black velour; subject on kitchen sink draining board at 45º to kitchen window with a Jessops 5x4 lightbox providing fill-in light; camera & lens supported on a slim plastic 'really useful' box which slides well across the draining board … enabling critical fine focus at max. magnification using the camera's image magnification facility. A Q&D photo to accompany an Ebay listing to sell the lens 'for parts or repair' as is very worn and has an alien Series VII filter thread. But optics appeared to be OK. Image is not cropped … it's as seen in finder at 1:1  mag. The vintage lens has resolved the tiny details in the coin quite satisfactorily but noticeably sharper in centre compared to RHS edge. Aperture set to f8  but effective aperture is f16 according to formula  f' = f(m+1). Would likely be a better image at a set aperture f5.6,  i.e. effective aperture f11.  I have another later 55/2.8 Micro Nikkor and will be interesting to see how its performance compares. The 55/3.5 Micro Nikkor sold very quickly as a BIN … likely due to the coin images.

Best wishes

The lens for this shot was a Zeiss 85/2.8 made for Rollei cameras but converted to Pentax K mount -- then stacked onto two adapters, one to Leica M-mount and then to L mount. Oh, there was a UV filter on the lens, too. And the shot was taken through a plate glass window, at f/2.8. Processed through Silkypix and Picture Window Pro.

Of course shooting at F1 is great, but even when you close it down a bit if the situation calls for it, I am very happy with the Noctilux F1 on the SL. Focusing is really easy and the weight/size pairs well with the SL body.
