vladik Posted July 24, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted July 24, 2017 (edited) Video looks good this feature is swaying me to SLÂ rather then plan to get M10 that is sans video. I shot video once with my M 240 (now sold) just out of curiosity, but getting more interested in it. Edited July 24, 2017 by vladik

TealWayFilms Posted July 27, 2017 Share #4 Â Posted July 27, 2017 Â SL with 24-90 and CV 15mm III Â Cut in FCPX with some image stabilization as this was all handheld. I was very disappointed with the high ISO banding at 6400 and 12,500. Very little grading, however, and the color was very good straight out of the camera. I also wanted to see what AWB looked like in this mixed lighting environment and was pleased. Â Michael

What shutter speed did you shoot it with? WB is typical of what SL does in fluorescent light, but Davinci Resolve Studio can take care of that in two nodes, so no big deal. Same with high shadow noise in a few episodes.

I left the shadow noise as a demo for this post, but cleaned it up ( along with the choppy voice over) before I sent it to the Zeiss rep.  As an aside, Leica makes medical microscopes also. tourian Posted October 9, 2017 Share #8  Posted October 9, 2017 Shot this video on the SL with the SL-50. No stabilization on this lens, so there is a lot of shake. Audio from the SL as well.

yamill3 Posted October 14, 2017 Share #12  Posted October 14, 2017 @patphnx thanks! Here’s what I used for this.  Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-TL 11–23 mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH most of my wideshots are taken with this. One of my favorite lens of all time. Focuses really great.  Leica Summilux-TL 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH for night shots  Leica APO-Vario-Elmar-T 55-135mm f/3.5-4.5 ASPH Lens get more from the distance with this  Ikan Beholder DS1 for stabilization
scott kirkpatrick Posted October 14, 2017 Share #13  Posted October 14, 2017 (edited) Production values on this thread are rising fast. I agree with the comments about the TL lenses for use in 4K video on the SL. (I posted some interior shots of a pizza oven in a bowling alley with one of those lenses a while back.) I'm almost ashamed to post this one. It exhibits the tradeoffs when you need image sharpness as well as motion smoothness. I shot at a beach and don't have any ND filter, so this was taken in C4K 24 FPS with a shutter speed of 1/500 or faster, f/5.6 on my SX-80 R. Oh, for the day when we get C4K at 120 FPS! I think the waves came out great, but the motion is indeed pixilated. From Flickr, it plays at what seems to be 1080P, which beats some other hosts, like Google Drive, which outputs only at 360P, and neither compares to the original on my retina screen...  10-9-2017 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr  scott Edited October 14, 2017 by scott kirkpatrick
Danny McIvor Posted October 18, 2017 Share #14 Â Posted October 18, 2017 (edited) I'm just starting off shooting video with my SL How do you guys approach focus? All manual or one of the auto modes? If it's auto how do you find it works at keeping people moving around in the shot in focus? Any tips would be appreciated. Edited October 18, 2017 by Danny McIvor
yamill3 Posted October 20, 2017 Share #15  Posted October 20, 2017 I'll use auto mode on my wide lens Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-TL 11–23 mm with AFC mode and Face Detect settings.  If I'm doing some portrait shots I usually stay on manual for more controls.  But really, it all depends on what you're trying to shoot. The key is to experiment and have fun!
Irakly Shanidze Posted October 23, 2017 Share #16  Posted October 23, 2017 (edited) I shot a music video in very unfavorable lighting conditions. ISO1600 for most clips (some 3200). Noise was there, but not unmanageable. DaVinci Resolve took care of it. The secret to keeping noise down is to shoot in 4K for a 1080p final product.  As always, recording 10-bit ProRes into BlackMagic Video Assist 4K. Manual focus, handleld in a PNC two-handle cage.  BTW, if you are in Bay Area, do not miss these guys this coming Saturday. I mean, the band, not the burlesque, which is an indigenous phenomenon in Detroit  https://youtu.be/Pa3a5Rp_-cA Edited October 23, 2017 by Irakly Shanidze
