reddot925 Posted July 6, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have 8 element 35mm summicron which I adore for the built quality. I’ve been offered a fair price from a friend for his silver 7 element, the v4 so-called king of bokeh ( understand it’s a hype) My friend keeps his lens in good condition so it’s a shame to pass this up, so I’m wondering are they similar or different enough to get different feel of the images? Advertisement Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Hi reddot925, Take a look here 35mm summicron 8 element and 7 element, too similar to own both?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
NB23 Posted July 6, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2017 Well, one is the king of the Seven elements and the other is the King of the Eight elements. You'd be owning two Kings of Fifteen element. How can you go wrong?
iaeaix Posted July 6, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2017 They are quite different. V4 has quite modern rendering. The silver V4 has better construction than the earlier V4, it is a lens to keep. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
arno_nyhm Posted July 6, 2017 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2017 i got the 8 element. and despite from 6-bit coding, there seems to be nothing to miss. so why get another 35/2? for no reason other than collecting. if you are a collector: go ahead! if not- why bother? lct Posted July 7, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 7, 2017 Depends upon what you're after. If it's build quality, the Summicron 35/2 v4 is not the best option as it is made with plastic parts and its optical cell tends to unscrew from the lens. If you're more interested in image quality, v1 is said to be less contrasty and softer at f/2 with significant vignetting and flare. Great lens otherwise but i have no experience with it so you know it much better than i do certainly. As for v4, it is more contrasty and sharper at f/2 and has less vignetting and flare but it has more CA and a bit of focus shift around f/4. I bought a v4 in the eighties and it remains one of my favorites now but i prefer the character of my Summilux 35/1.4 v2 and the sharpness of current Leica and Zeiss offerings. Highly subjective matter though. YMMV.
luigi bertolotti Posted July 8, 2017 Share #6 Posted July 8, 2017 Personally , I preferred, to stay next to my 8 elements, to jump to the asph... which is really another lens when you want to use f2: build quality is at same level and even size/Handling is similar. lct Posted July 8, 2017 Share #7 Posted July 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would have thought that the 35/2 ash is significantly bulkier buy i have no experience with the 35/2 v1.
reddot925 Posted July 8, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted July 8, 2017 I only had the black chrome limited 35 asph which I sold because it's much bulkier and heavier the the v1
