Ia it the operating system or an application thats doing it? There are some anomolies that creep in when I cut and paste text between Word or Open Office and the desktop publishing software I use but nothing like that

My PC at work does the same thing, in that case it is because our firewall blocks part of the forum, I can't post photos from that PC either.

 

So my best guess it that your laptop is preventing some small scripts from running, it is probably some setting in Windows Firewall.

No spaces visible in either of those on my PC (Firefox, Win 10) nor in the Samsung internet browser on the Android phone.

According to my IT person it is caused by the latest Firefox update and Windows8. And it is indeed the case; if I use Internet Explorer on the same computer there is no problem.
