I have....often not called 'new', but with warranty.  And the lenses are also available on the cheap....unfortunately for the wrong reasons.

Paul, regarding David Farkas' comment that the S lens line is complete.  We had that very discussion on this thread 3 months ago and he did not respond to my points...

I'm curious to know what kind of deal you got............I sent all my 3 lenses in for AF upgrade and I got loaners and NO invoice. I was also offered a new S180mm at a great price and a guarantee that the AF would not fail  :) :) Not bad for someone living in Malaysia

Neil

Exactly. I think it is very dependent on the relation to your dealer. I would encourage anyone interested to ask for an offer.

yeah I already noticed! He never answered my questions either.

re price, the point is that Leica S is not half the cost of the H6-100c. With lenses factored in, an actual kit works about the same (actually more). Factor in the thousands in extra cost people have spent "fixing" their lenses, the months of down time, and it doesn't look great does it?

For reference, I've owned my Hasselblads since the 90's. The H since the 2000's and I've not had one manufacturer defect. Not one. They are all still going.

Again, you're quoting list prices.  And I agree that the S system comes at a huge hassle cost.  But, if one is determined, a mint S system (largely because of those very hassles) can be had on the cheap by a savvy buyer, likely a lot cheaper than a similar H system unless that, too, has dropped like a bomb.

At the end of the day the S system as it is today is a very nice system. What's given the S system a headache is the quality of the competition at a considerable cheaper price. I think I mentioned this before but at the current S prices for second hand market anyone who has it would be crazy to sell it as its worth next to nothing................so just keep it and enjoy it "I Do"

Well, I don’t want a digital back system. I want a MF system that I can take on a camel ride in the Taklamakan desert, walk around in the old town of Havana for a week, take on a hike in Northern Norway to photograph the Aurora, and on a ski trip to a mountain top in winter. All done, with the S.

The second hand camera market is crazy........... S007 plus 3 x S lenses for $10k. I bought my H6D100c for $22k............with only 6 clicks on it and 3 years warranty. Three second hand HC lenses for less than ~3k each. Its certainly a buyers market, but when it comes to MF bigger is defiantly more attractive so buying into the Hassey market means more pixels to the buck :)

Jeff if you hold out to the camera show in September you will maybe get a better handle on which why to go with your MF adventure

Edit.... in response to your prior post....

Exactly, and that cheap used market has created a buying opportunity for those seeking mint S systems (to the extent that something potentially unreliable can be characterized as mint).

Pentax was the first with the 645D to challenge the S price point. Before that S bodies were over $30k. Hasselblad and Fuji presented round 2 of that competition. And maybe more to come.

The Hasselblad CEO has already mentioned potential products less expensive than the X1D. If so, we’ll see how they deliver on multiple lines simultaneously, as it was just recently that they were on the brink pre-DJI.

I think a few of the guys on here have done all of that with the X1D...........Thighslapper and Bill W for example

Guess what..............If I do that kind of trip I will also take MY S007 with 2 lenses as well...........to hell with carrying that big H6D100c to far off exotic places like that

I’ve been following and waiting for the dust to settle for 2 years now, when it became evident that significant new options were on the way, and the SL was introduced. September is just another step along the way.

I’ve already summarized my path that has brought me to consider the SL, S, X1D and GFX (eventually eliminating the 645Z and later the GFX). My considerations go well beyond MP, which isn’t even at the top of my criteria. The X1D rings a lot of bells for me, but lenses are the next key.

This isn't a discussion about used gear. You can pick up a Hasselblad H5D-50c for less than an S 007 and that is far more level a playing field in terms of image quality.

A new 007 v a new H-100 is a relevant discussion. And it's even more relevant since we are discussing a new S 008.

You don’t follow how some Leica dealers price gear. They can’t sell new for low prices, so they have to call it ‘’mint used’, but it’s really new with full warranty. And, in other cases, the gear is barely used with full warranty. Even Neil’s H “had 6 clicks on it”.... not officially new if another customer made them or if a dealer demoed it, even if full warranty, which is what I’m comparing.

Anyone who pays full list for an S system is likely wealthy, not very resourceful or oblivious.

Of course I will :) :) :)

But while I am waiting for the X2D, I am planning a trip to Spain Barcelona to see Guns and Roses in July. I will take my H6D100c. From Spain continue to Georgia for street photography, Northern Italy for landscape, Rome for Street and architecture and lastly Ethiopia for Tribes/people shooting........all with my H6D100c and 3 lenses

Rubbish. There is no way you'll get a new 008/S3 for Mint/Used prices straight out of the gates.

In that time you will pick up a Mint/used H6-100 at an even better deal and likely by then you'll get the H7-150c for the same cost of ownership as the 008 on an entire kit.

Before anyone jumps on the bandwagon.....................I plan to use iPhone X for the Guns & Roses concert the same as the rest of the punters DSLR's not welcome :)

As I said, not very resourceful. I could give you the dealers, but then I’d have to kill you.

I was speaking about the S006 and S007. The 008 doesn’t exist.

It's just a state of mind. My H has gone with me in all sorts of crazy places. I have also taken my Mamiya RZ all around the world too.

My Bro in Kuala Lumpur shot this with the H6D100c with some files shot at ISO12500..................amazing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOJlx98XHFk Because of the leaf shutter in the lenses I've also managed to shoot my H6D100c at a much lower shutter speed than I could do with my S007
