Multifunction Grip

RRS now only list an L type plate for the SL. I am using an RRS BP-CS flat plate, which they used to list and works very well. It is left on 100% of the time, mind you I am not using the MF grip. I decided the camera was quite big and heavy enough without it.

The listed BSL plate is the same as the one I've had for ages. The "L" is removable and I have it off most of the time. You don't have to buy the "L" if you don't want to.

I also have the MF Grip. But I honestly prefer the camera with the RRS grip 95% of the time. For the same reason you cite.

...... and attaching the L plate provides a handy extra grip on the left if you leave a finger width gap ....... so you can hold the camera two handed (like an old fashioned static machine gun) with added stability with heavier lenses, both landscape and portrait. I've found the MFG far too bulky and not very helpful at all...... it's basically just a very big expensive storage solution for a spare battery ......
