leicamnewton Posted June 13, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just inherited a Leica M4 and noticed some of the black coating has scratched off on the INSIDE of the front of the body (the areas near where the lens attaches). Is this a common occurrence? Is it easily restored? Thanks!

earleygallery Posted June 13, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2017 Someone's been clumsy fitting lenses/accessories. Touch it in carefully with some Matt black paint.
250swb Posted June 14, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2017 Yes touch it in, and unless it is extreme it's not likely to be a problem in everyday use. I imagine the camera has been used with a wide angle lens whose rear element extends a long way into the chamber.
pop Posted June 14, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 14, 2017 A former owner could have attached collapsible lenses in the collapsed state.
leicamnewton Posted June 14, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted June 14, 2017 Thanks, everyone! Very helpful! I will live with the scratches for now until I build up enough courage to attempt a touch-up.
pico Posted June 17, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 17, 2017 My favorite flat black paint is Testors brand either spray (not for your application) or little bottles. It is very flat, very black.
