Jean-Michel Posted June 7, 2017 Share #1  Posted June 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received a new 50 mm Summicron to replace my rigid one. The lens cap only works if the lens is 'naked', once I put a filter on it  the lens cap no longer fits. No big deal as I rarely put a cap on, but do so on occasion. Does any one know if a cap that fits over the extend hood exist? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Hi Jean-Michel, Take a look here 50 mm Summicron (latest) lens cap. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mike Rawcs Posted June 7, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted June 7, 2017 I have this lens and have a Leica U.V filter attached. The cap fits, although I find it seems more secure if I fit the cap and then turn it slightly in a clockwise direction. Hope this helps.
ramosa Posted June 7, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted June 7, 2017 Jean-Michel: That's not the case with my Cron 50, nor the two prior ones that I had (long story). I'm referring to the Type 5 version of the Cron 50--not the APO. With each of these Type 5 Cron 50s, I have used a Leica filter and had no problems in terms of fitting the cap. Â Edit: The cap won't fit with the lens hood extended, of course, but that's unrelated to the filter.
tobey bilek Posted June 7, 2017 Share #4 Â Posted June 7, 2017 Typical Leica screw up. Â Engineering that does not take into account all situations. Â Sometimes the shade will not fit over the filter so you can take a photo. Â Â If you have a filter with female thread facing out, Â get a screw in cap. Jean-Michel Posted June 8, 2017 Author Share #5 Â Posted June 8, 2017 Thanks for the replies. But no can do! -- I am talking about the newest version ,just purchased new. The cap fits into the threads at the front of the lens, once a filter (Leica 39 mm) is screwed in, the cap has no place to catch. what would be nice is a cap that fit over the slide-out hood. I guess that I am out of luck, no big deal as I almost never use a cap. Â Oh, I just read the brochure that came with the lens. Sounds like the new filters have an external thread, and that would solve the issue, I have a new filter on order. My filters are rather aged! lct Posted June 8, 2017 Share #6  Posted June 8, 2017 The 14398 slip-on lens cap for 50/2 apo fits nicely on the 50/2 v5 (pic), even when a filter is on. The cap does not wobble at all there but it is not tight enough to prevent it from slipping in case of shake or bump. Sticking another strip of velvet or foam on its inner circumference would perhaps solve the issue. I seem to recall that our colleague wlaidlaw tried something like that. Rob L Posted June 8, 2017 Share #7  Posted June 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Kyser 40mm cap is great. Very shallow rim and fits over every 39mm filter that I have tried. Perfect on V5 Summicron with built in hood.     https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/125270-REG/Kaiser_206940_40mm_Push_On_Lens_Cap.html
Chuck Albertson Posted June 8, 2017 Share #8 Â Posted June 8, 2017 +1 for the Kaiser 40mm cap, it stays stuck on to a 39mm filter. Once the filter's off, though, the cap won't work on this lens.
RayD28 Posted June 13, 2017 Share #9 Â Posted June 13, 2017 Timely topic. Â I find myself constantly checking my lens cap when carrying a camera with the strap diagonal across my chest. Â Years ago I bought a replacement lens cap for an Olympus lens and it had a piece of string that you could attach to the strap lugs. Â It was pretty handy and forced you to replace your cap after taking shots. Â Aesthetically not good, but very practical once you trained your self to hold the lens when shooting so it did not swing from the camera. Â Â I just looked on amazon but I didn't see anything for Leica lenses. Â
