Did I ever deny it? The only difference between us is that I look for explanations and you for weak spots to attack.

There's no need to be insulting, Jaap.

I don't think holding Leica to account for this is "looking for weak spots to attack".  This is about accountability, not being an apologist, or trying to minimise the importance of this with vague reassurances.  Be under no illusion, Leica tried (initially) to pretend this wasn't happening; then they had to acknowledge it was their problem and do the right thing; now they've tried to stand back from what was a clear commitment and it is biting them in the bum (to use a coarse colloquialism).

The fact remains that, as a result of a change in policy, Leica has found itself where it can't cope with the numbers.  That isn't speculation or finding weakness, or bashing or anything else you have accused me of to deflect the issue.  It's simply holding to account.

You might be happy to have your cameras sitting in a queue at Wetzlar, but I am less sanguine about it.  I'm not stressing; my World isn't going to end; I'm actually pretty philosophical about it.  I have my SL and M-A to play with, and there are worse things in the World than not having your camera for a while.

But let's try to stick to the facts here - this isn't about you, or me - it's about Leica.  Sometimes, no matter how much you might support a particular brand, it is entirely fair to ask "What on earth are you doing?" and to even point out that this is not their finest hour.  I should really be able to do that, without personal comments from you.

My camera left here in May, and went into the Leica system on 9 June.  When did yours go in?

Cheers

John

No, Jaap - I've quoted you.  This isn't about an "agenda".  Why personalise this?

It's about Leica.  I don't know if you saw on the other thread (https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/272513-leica-ends-free-sensor-replacement-for-m9monochrom-bodies/?p=3307928), but Mark Ebert was told 14 months for a replacement by Wetzlar ...

One satisfying part of my career was coding for an excellent and successful MRP II system. I can hardly believe that Leica does not employ the same, and if they do then they have deep problems regardless. It should not happen.

Leica uses SAP ERP as far as I am aware.

Many folks don't know that they have a sensor that is mildly corroded. It does not show up in most pictures, and even if it does, it is treated as dust and fixed in post processing.

By highlighting the problem, the user is made to check or send to Leica for an examination. I guess that's what is happening now with a flood of cameras in service centers. The deadline for free replacements compounds it further.

What would be good would be for Leica to give users a 'free replacement' voucher, if camera is examined and found by the service center, to have a corroded sensor, before the mid August deadline. This can be subsequently redeemed for a free scheduled service, or a camera upgrade, within a time frame. This will enable users to continue using their cameras until a replacement sensor is available in the nearest service center, or they chose to buy a new camera.
