Advertisement Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Hi Eoin, Take a look here Reminder: 30 June. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cbretteville Posted June 24, 2007 Share #22 Posted June 24, 2007 I ordered the 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar and it is off the list. As is the 28/2.8 ASPH, the 75/1.4 and the option to get the WATE without the frankenfinder. After the message I got that the 28/2.8 ASPH was not discontinued after, all I pressed Stefan Daniel into an answer as to why it was taken off the 30% list here is his reply: Dear Mr. Bretteville, The lens ELMARIT-M 28mm/f2.8 ASPH had to be taken out of the remedy programme, because we cannot fulfil the demand we already have in the regular sales channel. I kindly ask for your understanding. Please let me know, if there is anything else I can do for you. Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Kind regards Stefan Daniel Not even an option to wait in line for delivery some time in the future. Very, very disappointing and no, I don't want to be understanding. carstenw Posted June 24, 2007 Share #23 Posted June 24, 2007 Although I really have no money, I am still toying with the idea of using my discount, but if I do that, I need to be absolutely sure that I order a lens which will not be cashed in for another two months. Can anyone let me know which lenses are meant to be heavily back-ordered? I am thinking the Apo-90, but this will almost certainly ship right away, so that is out. The Apo-135 the same. The other thing I could do is get a cheaper version of one of my lenses, for travelling or risky use, like a 50 Cron, but then again, it will almost certainly ship right away. I already have a WATE, and the Noct is too much, even two months from now. What is the situation on the following lenses: - 24/2.8 Asph - 35/1.4 Asph - 50/2 - 75/2 Asph - 90/2 Asph <-- the one I would like to order, but would come too soon. - 135/3.4 Asph
scott kirkpatrick Posted June 24, 2007 Share #24 Posted June 24, 2007 Carsten, the 75/2 seems to be safely back-ordered. My order was confirmed in March and I have seen no indication of its imminent arrival to date. And it is a very different lens from your 75/1.4, so it doesn't duplicate your present inventory. scott
Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 24, 2007 Share #25 Posted June 24, 2007 Guy, now perhaps you understand why I want to try this lens so much, I already have the 75 cron and you keep saying to me to either get the 50 Lux or 75 Lux. Perhaps even you are starting to consider adding this to your bag. Eoin if you have the 75 cron than the nocti may make sense since it is a different look. Also i have been shooting this at varies apertures not JUST F1 and it is a very nice lense overall too. it is big and stiff to focus but the 75 Lux is much bigger and hard to focus also. i think though i am hard to judge big and manual focusing too becuase i came from the DMR with big lenses and i have to admit to be able too focus almost as fast as any AF lens but that just takes a lot of shooting to get good at it. Big does not really become a issue for me becuase my overall weightand size has decreased dramtically. before this trip to Germany i was in NY for 4 days shooting also all day long. yes my external drive is pretty full. so really i have been shooting non stop for 14 days straight and about a average of 300 to 400 images a day, so the M8's are getting a serious stress test and there holding up very well but also important is i am tired but these have not killed me like the DMR would have. It really is not bad at all and been carrying a lot of lenses mine plus 3 more of the Academies. Look at the germany thread for a lot of Nocti shots , been using it day and night. i can't justify just a night lens it has to work everywhere. Now most of the backgrounds have looked nice but i have gotten a few of those distracting backgrounds that we have talked about, so care needs to be taken with the Nocti but yes i am growing very fond of it and i really want this loaner since it is deadly on both M8's. Now i have been to the Solms factory for the tour and talked to everyone and yes lenses are backordered a lot but if you could see how these lenses are really made folks would underdstand the backlog and some of the limits they have to build them faster, yes folks are working longer but some things just can't go faster like grinding and polishing the glass and putting them together. they really are working very hard to get caught up. Not easy to be waiting and leica does understand everyones desire to get lenses but they will not sacrifice quality just to get lenses out faster either so it's tough for all of us. Also it is public knowledge and i asked to post this but they are looking for repair technicians in New Jersey so if anyone is looking and qualified to do this type of work leica is hiring and i would suggest calling and getting the details on this. AGeoJO Posted June 24, 2007 Share #27 Posted June 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I already have a WATE, and the Noct is too much, even two months from now. The Nocti may take more than 3 months to get and you will get another grace period from the credit card company around 4 more weeks . I would go for the Nocti.... I just got mine back from the 6-bit coding and loving it.
Eoin Posted June 24, 2007 Share #28 Posted June 24, 2007 Cindy ordered it about a month back and delivery was 4-6 months out, go on Carsten!, stop fighting it:p, you know deep down you'd like to have one in the bag:D, resistance is futile:rolleyes:. Brand spanking new Noctilux for just under €2500 you'd have to be crazy to pass this one up. The 90 AA is to close to your 75 and you have a 90 macro anyway. Thanks for the insight Guy and delighted to hear the Nocti and 75Cron are very different, I'll look for the ones in the German section and await some more of your shots when processed. Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 24, 2007 Share #29 Posted June 24, 2007 Also all lenses are slated at 4 to 6 weeks in delivery , no lens is longer than any other in there estimates. It is the demand and not really which lense they make first. The part we saw was the Wate and 28 elmarit being made in front of us. Really interesting to watch some of the build going on
carstenw Posted June 24, 2007 Share #30 Posted June 24, 2007 Actually Eoin, I have tried a Noctilux, and I am much less interested in it than in the 90AA, to be honest, and anyway, I prefer the older version without the built-in hood, which I ought to be able to find for about €2000. I love the framing of my 90 Macro, but the f/4 often bites me in the rear when I least expect it, and so I would love to have a sharp lens with great bokeh and narrow depth of field. I might just check off the 28 Elmarit (I have the older letter), and wait for them to send the letter asking me to pick another, and then wait a long time to answer and then get the 90AA anyway I wish I had more money right now, but the fact is that it is bad timing, so I have to have it drag out a bit. If I get nervous about this, I will probably just buy a 75 Cron and if that doesn't do it for me, try to trade it with someone for a 90AA later on. Eoin Posted June 24, 2007 Share #31 Posted June 24, 2007 Only joking Carsten, what ever floats your boat, mind you the 90AA often appears for less than €1400 which is less then the 30%. Razor sharp lens by all accounts. Enjoy!. I'd order the Tri-Elmar just to be sure when playing for time, I've a sneaky feeling the elmarit will be delivered and not de-listed. What ever you order, enjoy!. It will make a fine addition to your growing collection.
wattsy Posted June 25, 2007 Share #32 Posted June 25, 2007 I'm also wondering whether it's worth taking up the offer now there's only a few days left. I've owned (and sold) most of the Leica lenses that have interested me at one time or another and have recently settled on a small basic kit that I prefer to use (mainly 28 and 35 focal lengths but I occasionally use a longer lens). I'm tempted to order a Noctilux but I've owned one before and found it a bit tedious after a while (the thin DOF effect gets a bit cloying in a short time and I hated the extra weight of carrying it around in my bag). I'm also not sure I'm fully convinced by the 67mm effective field of view and I dare say it will back-focus on the M8 (like my 50 ASPH). However... scott kirkpatrick Posted June 26, 2007 Share #34 Posted June 26, 2007 What are other people's waiting times on the 75/2 so far? Actually, I started digging today, to get a better estimate, and i discovered that mine had left Germany on April 27, five weeks after the order was booked. Unfortunately, once it reached New Jersey, they were having trouble processing the charge to a credit card number that must have been wrong, and when they tried to ask me for another using an email ID that isn't mine, they didn't get any ACK back to tell them to check it. Two lessons -- the waiting time on the 75/2 is about 6 weeks. -- It's time Leica got some modern web-based order entry systems, that let the customer verify his information before it goes electronic, and that let all parts of Leica see the same information when an order passes from one part to another. They are surprisingly cheerful about all these headaches, but I am not happy about a company that lets them continue to happen. Any decent camera store (Popflash, B&H, ...) does a better job on order fulfillment and tracking.
robsteve Posted June 27, 2007 Share #35 Posted June 27, 2007 I just sent off my order for the WATE and finder combo. Does Leica email to confirm the order, or just send snail mail? I put my email address on the order form in case they send a confirmation via email. Robert
carstenw Posted June 27, 2007 Share #36 Posted June 27, 2007 I just sent my letter off, with my order for the Tri-Elmar 28-35-50. Let's see what Leica says
sean_reid Posted June 27, 2007 Share #37 Posted June 27, 2007 In case its useful, I'm going to try to have my 35 mm lens review up by tomorrow night so that people who are deciding on 35s can use the information there. Cheers, Sean
wparsonsgisnet Posted June 27, 2007 Share #38 Posted June 27, 2007 This post is informational. I sent my 30% letter off early in the month and just (yesterday) received a letter from Leica Germany that my paper work has been registered and that Leica USA will take care of everything from here on. I called NJ. I would have emailed them but there is no email address in the stuff I looked thru. They were very nice on the phone. They took my name and number, and told me that at this point I should not expect to get anything before the end of the summer. I have ordered the 28f2.8 (see Carl's post above, number 22) and they didn't say anything to me about that lens. I guess I'm going to hear if that lens is not available. [Well ... the following isn't *really* informational......] Whatever is responsible for this success at Leica, how nice that the company is in this shape. And what a great camera the M8 is.
