Ecar Posted May 16, 2017 Share #21 Â Posted May 16, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes - basically kind of a multiplier in a gearbox. Â Anyway, I guess the point is that if you can go from minimum distance to infinity (and the other way around) along the scale and there is no slippage or blockage as you turn the focus ring from one end to the other (ie, focus changes continuously between the two extreme distances), then the lens works as intended and its behaviour is 'normal'. The "amount of turning" of the focus ring to achieve focus between two given distances - or "focus throw" - is indeed a lens-specific design factor. Whether there's a difference between the AA and the non-AA in this respect is a different question. Â Pretty straightforward. But perhaps some, including myself, did not understand what the OP's question really was.

Ecar Posted May 16, 2017 Share #23  Posted May 16, 2017 Or the very question asked in the topic of this thread: "Summilux 'Double Aspherical' long focus throw normal?"  Well, it could be 'normal' (or not) for the AA and 'different' (or not) from the non-AA, couldn't it?
luigi bertolotti Posted May 17, 2017 Share #24 Â Posted May 17, 2017 According to robert-gregory, "Focus throw is a bit longer than the ASPH and most modern Leica lenses". ... ... it must be JUST a bit... looking at the pictures (Wiki) of the aspherical and the asph their scales look very similar... and the Summarit 35 looks a bit even shorter... I think that are differences hard to feel in practical usage (differently, for instance, from what happens with "old" and "new" 90s....you really "turn a lot more" an old one)
lct Posted May 17, 2017 Share #25  Posted May 17, 2017 Dunno for the aspherical but i did some comparos five or six years ago and differences looked obvious then. Nothing scientific, just an approximation.  Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! reddot925 Posted May 18, 2017 Author Share #26 Â Posted May 18, 2017 Finally got the CLA done by Leica in Germany. The heaviness of the focus ring is gone! It's now very easy to turn and I finally tested it against 35mm Summilux ASPH and focus throw in longer but not too much. Â Thanks all for the advise and sorry for the confusion in the question, as mentioned I'm asking for a professional whereas I'm just a casual photographer and a gearhead

reddot925 Posted May 18, 2017 Author Share #28  Posted May 18, 2017 Indeed ! Credit to Leica Frankfurt.  We just bought this while in Germany and staying here only a week and Leica frankfurt say they will try to help. If we'd gone home to Asia and send it , it will be usual month or two.  Of note though, we had to pay almost 200 euro extra for physical transport to and from Frankfurt to Wetzlar because shipping service won't be enough time. Nothing scientific, just an approximation. Â LeicaM_lenses_focus_throw.jpg Nice graph lct... you gave me the idea to make one by myself... (to be more "scientific",instead of the general "minimum focus distance", is better to mark a "minimum common focus distance"... let'say 1 meter... some old longs like Hektors and Alpine are apart... )
Ivar B Posted May 18, 2017 Share #30 Â Posted May 18, 2017 Very desirble lens - but if I was a user only, I`d sell it and get myself a 35 FLE and plenty of cash on the side.
