It was produced in small numbers (~5000) and was expensive at release, priced at a similar price to the Noctilux when the external VF was included. So in some respects it is a bargain The prices may seem high only because they took a dive when it was realised that it didn't perform well on digital but since then it has seen somewhat of a resurgence in popularity, and the prices are back to where they have been historically. Â Â Everything seems ok with the M4-2 and the rangefinder, but I wanted to test the SA on my Sony A7Rii to check for any issues, I have an adaptor and it all looked good BUT... I am a little confused about the focussing though. I shot a picture out of my window and focussed on a rooftop about 60 feet away. on the M4-2 it's just off infinity. On the Sony to get it sharp on focus assist the lens has to be set to about 5 feet away ? I assume the adaptor I use should set the lens the same distance from the sensor as from the film on my leica otherwise it wouldn't work. So I'm wondering if this is a "quirk" or if the lens will be out of focus when linked to my M4-2 rangefinder. I have tried the same with my Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 and on the Sony it seems more in line with what you expect, just off infinity. In fact it has to be exactly the same as all othe M and LTM lenses else the RF system won't work. I'd do a quick focus series on your M4-2 and see what it looks like. Most likely the adaptor you're using on your Sony body is not accurately shimmed and this error is enhanced on wide angles lenses (depth of focus): https://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~cs39j/sp02/session12.html  Enjoy the 21 SA and shoot a roll of film on the M4, you'll be fine. You can open the back door and put some ground glass where the film goes, shutter locked open in B and look through the back large format style. If "off infinity" means beyond infinity, your lens and/or M4-2 needs some adjustment i would think. As for the Sony, do you mean you must focus your lens at 65 feet? Guest )-( Posted May 13, 2017 Share #16 Â Posted May 13, 2017 Just taken mine for a walk with my M2 (21/3.4 super angulon) I rarely focus using the rangefinder with this lens, f8 and be there and just use the distance scales, everything is going to be sharp enough. Â Uhm : my feelings are : Â - On a M4-2 everything ought to be right, unless your SA has some serious issue (which COULD be the result of some badly made CLA... SA is a lens that is critical about disassembling/reassembling) : btw, take into account the post from cogee... this lens is seldom critical to focus. - What is the REAL result on Sony ? I mean, I think that the focus assist can be not so trustworthy with this lens: make a simple test at 3 distances (infinity - 4 meters - 1 meter, set on focusing scale, and look at the output files of your Sony.
