I was in Ireland recently - I know, not Iceland, but I was on a roadtrip testing the Q alongside my M9 with 35mm attached.

I did mostly landscape and a little bit of street photography.

Honestly, in this case the Q alone would have been enough. The only thing the M9 really does better, is portraits - and filesize.

I'm used to my M9 - and I prefer it to any camera overall and since I've used it for such a long time, it really is the extension of my eye.

The Q is weirdly enough even easier to handle, especially on overcast days it's nice to have the EVF.

Honestly I wouldn't have needed the M9 on that trip - but it's nice to know you have a backup if something should happen.

So yes, I think having the X100 and Q should be enough. Although I would guess you'll hardly need the X100.

In a similar situation, I will be going to the south of France (Nice) and then join a river trip up the Rhone River.  I plan on taking my new Q as well as my older Lumix GX1 with a 45mm, 1.8 (90mm eqivalent) such that I can take on distance bank side opportunities as we pass.  I hope this works as I do not want to take my Nikon kit.

The Q worked for me last summer taking a Danube River cruise. I liked having the 28mm, particularly for city visits, and one always can crop to 35 or 50 should one choose.  The lens is so very good that crops in post-processing of castles on the river banks worked quite well.

I'm going with a bunch of friends later this year to Iceland , I started another thread that should I sell the Q, but now I'm exploring a completely opposite direction and just thinking to have fun with it and see if I enjoy using it fully.

Since I'm going with friends , do you guys think it's possible or doable for an Iceland trip to ditch the bigger gear , the lens changing and go with the two superb fixed lens cameras ? I'd crop and stitch for those longer or wider shots. Will still take a small tripod for the Northern Lights if we are lucky to see it.

Hello. I have very often been going around in Iceland with different photo gear. Last trip in April was with Q only. It worked great for landscapes and general photography. The only time when I truly regretted not having a tele option was when reindeers showed up not too far from the road but a bit too far for a 28mm lens. Otherwise, no regret. On a few previous trips I have taken the S 006 or the S 007. The latter in conjunction with the vario 30-90. That was a super combo, of course. But most of the pictures were taken on the (very) wide side, 30 to 50 mm. Actually, I love the 30mm setting on the vario (corresponding to 24mm in 35mm). Sometimes I even wished it went to 24mm (19mm in 35 mm). The point being: you will not regret having a wide lens and the Q will do most of the work very well. Iceland is mostly about landscapes. Last point: rather than debating the Q vs the Fuji, take whatever gear you have. If you take two cameras, I would consider the second one only as a back-up for the first one in case something goes wrong. Happened to me once with a Hasselblad X series after only two days... Otherwise, you'll just fiddle too much with different cameras, settings etc and perhaps even miss out on photo opportunities.

Enjoy Iceland.

Pascal

terrific pictures on your flickr-account!!!! Your pictures out of Q are among the best pictures I have seen until now! I would be able to use LR like you, but I don´t like it and so I sold my Q because of the terrible ooc-jpegs. Now I own a X2 but I miss the view finder.

What kind of camera do you use now after the Q?

If you are interested (although the quality of my photos don´t reach yours): Today I put my blog of last years Iceland bicycle trip around the island to my site, text is also in english:

Great blog, thank you for sharing. The photos are terrific too. As a cyclist I can appreciate the physical achievement here, the deserted parts looked the best to me.

bring either just the Q or the Q and the X100F with the TCL.

Really though, from the sounds of your trip, just bring the Q, a very small travel tripod (shots with your friends, astro, aurora, water), and one ND filter.

No people, no buildings, no birds, no food, no plants..........

Well, can't you capture all of those with the Q alone? (except for birds probably)

Thank you for your kind words. It's kind of hard not to take great shots here in Iceland. I agree with you with the ooc-jpegs, they are garbage IMHO. The Raw images are however close to magical and can be manipulated as much as you want to get the result, the image that you thought you really shot. I only own Q now and no other equipment, and have had it on my shoulder since day one travelling around Iceland, Denmark, Germany and Greece. Never once i wished that I had another camera.

Enjoy your stay and never leave your camera behind when you step out of your car!!

Here is one I shot just a week ago close to Hvammseyri in North Iceland.

Beautiful pictures!   Thank you for your input.

Having owned the Q for close to two years here in Iceland, I can safely say that it's a beautiful all-rounder for both landscapes and close-ups. Haven't once missed my old clunky DSLR gear.
