Lightroom...and then?

I just do not succeed in working easily with C1... continue with Lightroom... but would like to find the best way to work to obtain a good file TO PRINT; so, a question: given you have a printer of your own, what kind of worflow do you think is better between these ?

(starting with a DNG shot, of course)

- Do not use other than LR : adjust colors, etc.. ("develop" tasks), then print (I have impression of poor print management)

- Adjust etc in LR, export to PS via PSD format, go to PS just for cropping, resizing etc and printing (unless, of course, you want to play with the hell of things you find in PS...but that's another biz... you enter in the world of deep photo manipulation)

- As above, but using TIFF.

What is the best way? The pros & cons ? Last question : starting from a color DNG, and with the above Sw tools, if you want to obtain a BW image, when is the better point to do the transform ? In LR or in PS ?

Thanks in advance for the advices.

Luigi,

I don't use a M8, but rather a DMR. I do almost everything in LR.

Import as DNG

Develop - WB/temp, then exposure, adjust for recovery, fill etc, decide for colour/B&W, adjust on slider for shadows through to highlights, alter colour sliders to suit if in B&W (like channel mixer), alter conrast/brightness, sharpen if needed (last action)

If necessary crop and rotate at some point

Hey presto

Best wishes,

Charlie

Luigi there is no magic pill, a lot has to do with trial and error until you get what type of image effect you want, individuals have varying needs. It's really is about practice and taking each image as an individual until you learn to read what you have to make if any to a image.

If you follow someone else's path you will get the same type of image, find your own way

Hi Luigi...we seem to be following similar frustrating paths. After my last post about C1 and Jamie's advice and tips, I "had another go at it".

So many of the more experienced forum members seem to use it, it's technical qualities are no doubt great but I just can't get used to the user format. However since trying it for a while I'm not so stuck on LR any more, even had a look at the updated Camera Raw 4.1 with CS3...and now that Aperture is back in the running I find myself stuck in the middle of nowhere. I will wait for the C1 version 4 to come out ( anyone know when?) and see how it's user friendliness is and then decide...maybe!!

Stnami's comments make a lot of sense tho'........Peter

I am not tech proficient but feel that things will be much improved when the light balance problem is addressed. Isn't that the key? It takes an inordinate amount of time on my mac with lightroom to deal with a large number images. I admire those of you who are able to successfully deal with C1.
