EddieJ Posted May 2, 2017 Share #41 Posted May 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) How Can Analog Photography Be Saved? Here are three interesting websites that are dedicated to the endeavor of saving analog photography. Digital photography is fun, quick and easy and can produce outstanding results; that having been said, it would be a real tragedy if analog cameras, film, chemisrty and the ability to outsource our printing needs were to vanish forever. The websites: https://www.oneyearwithfilmonly.com/single-post/Is-Film-Photography-Really-Saved https://cameraventures.com/help https://cameraventures.com/ I spotted this on JCH and had an epiphany "what are we saving analog photography from?" What is this - analog? As opposed to digital? Should we be saying/asking where is film photography going? Because analog photography is in its purest extends to digital as part of the journey - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analog_photography So we should be asking when is/are weapons of mass distraction going to abate. Whilst I accept that social media brings great things to all, it has destroyed the fabric of the medium we call photography - the craft including camera, lenses, film, processing, printing. Instagram, FB all we see are like, like, like which in some cases maketh the photographer. Really? Narcissistic, selfie absorbed tripe. Video blogs, YouTube maketh overnight heros, who in some cases charge an arm and a leg for nothing more than the right to call themselves professional educators. Not all, but some. So I say, we should not say: How Can Analog Photography Be Saved, we should say: how can we continue to use such a beautiful medium - film and continue to enjoy for further generations to celebrate. Yes, but social networks like fb or G+ also have a benefit for analog photography: There are many analog film and darkroom groups now which share interesting stuff in these social networks. I use it predominantly as additional source of information and share some experience regarding film development and darkroom printing. It is just that the communication media have changed with the rise of smartphones and social networks. It is up to ourselves to make the best of and to use them with some caution. Mikeleica Posted May 2, 2017 Share #43 Posted May 2, 2017 I still think its only a question of time film will disappear Not because people are less interrested more because less people know how to repair analog cameras and there is no market to restart building new ones It's all good man, us young people who look at any problem as a solution to be taken care of brilliantly via 3-D printing tech, mentorships of repair, gorgeous restorations, we got this covered: https://www.instagram.com/doragoodman/?hl=en

SilentShutter Posted May 24, 2017 Share #46 Posted May 24, 2017 So I say, we should not say: How Can Analog Photography Be Saved, we should say: how can we continue to use such a beautiful medium - film and continue to enjoy for further generations to celebrate. We should teach that there is another world far away from smartphone controls and youtube channels and that we dont need to share everything to anybody on flickr or instagram. Go offline. Take a book to read. Take a analog camera to take pictures. Take time to breath.......
jaapv Posted May 24, 2017 Share #47 Posted May 24, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stuff and nonsense. Why should analog photography need to be saved? It will survive on its own like any worthwhile human endeavour.
Soden Posted May 24, 2017 Share #48 Posted May 24, 2017 This subject reminds of the slogan "make America great again". Pure nonsense. As long as there are groups like Lomo and the impossible project film will live on. Much longer than I'll be around. But I have my freezer full of tri-x and a couple of bottles of rodinal... I'd be more worried about the death of dSLR's...
