Ivar B Posted March 15, 2017 Share #1 Â Posted March 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I took delivery of the new Sigma Art 1.4/85mm today. This is the Canon version and I use the Novoflex SL/EOS adapter. Â I have not tested it out optically yet, but the very good news is that the autofocus works and it is fast too. It definately looks like this is a very good match. Â The lens is anything but compact - but the build quality is outstanding. Â Based on what I have read about this lens, (as mentioned, I have not tested myself) the optical performance is unrivalled and on par with the Zeiss Otus 1.4/85 and some testers argue the best lens they have ever seen in this focal length range (based on MTF). Â It is amazing that Sigma can deliver this quality at this cost and I really look forward to testing it out for myself. Â Â
Advertisement Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here Sigma Art 1.4/85mm on Leica SL (Canon EOS) - YES!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
caissa Posted March 15, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) I wonder which other AF lens would make a good team with the 1.4/85 . The Art 2.0/24-35 could be a candidate. Nice is the constant length (if and zooming). The Art 1.4/35 and 1.4/50 seem not to be working with the Novoflex adapter .... What about the new Canon 1.4/35 II ? There is no Art 28mm ?! Â What about the Art 1.4/24 ? Has anybody tried one of these ? Can anybody show some examples made with the SL ? AlexP Posted March 15, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted March 15, 2017 24 art work. Fast af. 24-35 ark work. OK af 35L mkii work. Fast af
caissa Posted March 15, 2017 Share #4 Â Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) EOS is probably different in color to the SL lenses. What about Sigma compared to EOS/Canon ? (equal colors or different again ?)Â The EF 1.4/35L II with fast AF could also be a team partner, but very expensive ... Ivar B Posted March 15, 2017 Author Share #5  Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) I did some quick handheld shots this afternoon - it is getting dark here and I just shot across the yard.  The lens appears to be razor sharp and with excellent contrast wide open (Attached photo). I can`t recall having seen anything like it. There is some vignetting. Stopping down a bit reduces vignetting and the sharpness and contrast is outstanding. I will do some more testing tomorrow and over the weekend. Welcome, dear visitor! saxo Posted April 21, 2017 Share #6 Â Posted April 21, 2017 I took delivery of the new Sigma Art 1.4/85mm today. This is the Canon version and I use the Novoflex SL/EOS adapter. Â .. Â Is the AF speed of the Canon version of this lens comparable to the native SL 24-90 zoom or slower like the SL 1,4/50 or even worse? Any idea? Thanks! dritz Posted April 21, 2017 Share #9 Â Posted April 21, 2017 Any comments wrt the 80 Summilux-R? Â I have an SL on order specifically to use the Summilux, the 60 Elmar, and 100 APO-Macro. Â Thanks.
helged Posted April 22, 2017 Share #10 Â Posted April 22, 2017 They all work _brilliantly_ on the SL (manual aperture and focus, of coarse). Enjoy!
HeinzX Posted April 22, 2017 Share #11 Â Posted April 22, 2017 Would be interested, how the new Art 12/24 will behave on the SL with the Novoflex adapter ? Has anyone tried it ?
FlashGordonPhotography Posted April 22, 2017 Share #12 Â Posted April 22, 2017 (edited) Would be interested, how the new Art 12/24 will behave on the SL with the Novoflex adapter ? Has anyone tried it ? Â I have one. Optically it's great. AF is OK to very good, most of the time. Â I have had two instances where it just locked up. Stuck at f22 with no AF. Repeatedly mounting and unmounting plus playing with the AF/MF switch got it going again. I'm not 100% sure it's compatibility. I want to test it on another adaptor just in case. And since I cleaned my contacts it's been OK. Â Now in all fairness I have used it several times a week over the last three months. And it's been an issue only twice. Mostly it just works great. Â It is a bit of a beast of a lens on the SL. With adaptor it's noticeably larger than the 24-90. Has anyone tried it ?   I've had this lens for a couple of weeks and use it solely for interior shots.  Yes, it sticks v occasionally but simply turning off/back on seems to sort it.   Otherwise this lens is spectacular  Welcome, dear visitor!
