D2 compatible battery

There were lots of comments about battried for the D2 on the old forum. Can't remember the details, but I'd stick to the recommended ones as a general rule. Get Panasonic batteries for the LC1/L1 as they're the same as the oned used in the D2 and a lot cheaper. I've got two third party batteries that have served me well in the last 2 1/2 years, but I remember others having less luck than I.

Thanks very much for your replies, which were very useful.

Must admit I've owned many cameras over the years including Pentax P30T and MZ5, Fuji GSW690 111, Pentax 67 and Pentax ist DS but I derive the most pleasure by far from using my D2 and am constantly amazed by the razor-sharp lens. I hope the D3, should one arrive, will be able to outdo the D2.

Pete.

This supplier can be trusted and the product often sells at £7.99 with a maiden bid.

If you can't wait, pay the extra £2.00, still excellent value.

Thanks, Mark, for the confirmation.

Thanks Pekem for the link. I had already purchased a battery from this gent but instead of supplying the advertised 7.2v 1450 mah battery he supplied a 7.4v 3200 mah one - hence my query.

I'm very happy to report that the battery works - without my D2 becoming an unexpected incendiary device - and presumably will supply more than double the capacity of the Leica one at a fraction of the cost. Happy days! (I feel sure someone notable is quoted as saying that 'there's no such thing as a free lunch' but I appear to have left the restaurant and I've yet to see a bill - "cheque" for our US cousins ... )

Pete.

As an electrical engineer I, too, am a little dubious whether the battery will deliver what's printed on it's cute little sticker. After all, both batteries have similar mass and use lithium ion storage technology so unless someone has quietly broken the limits of charge density, it seems unlikely that one battery would have double the capacity of the other.

Still, I intend to stay firmly in denial and pretend that my battery will deliver double the capacity until the cold hand of reality slaps me sharply about the face by leaving me with a powerless camera when positioned in front of the best potential shot of my life! Which of course it will. Hmm, perhaps I'll take an emergency back-up battery just in case...

In the unlikely event that this battery delivers mythical performance I shall be sure to let you all know. But don't go holding your breath.
