vladik Posted March 4, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Leica, now that you have satisfied Leica Puritans with M10 (M11 will be further 0.9mm slimmer good enough reason to update in 4 years) why don’t you leave M 240 for further gradual development for us not so orthodox. Update sensor, processor, video, and EVF act. By all means call it M 250 or whatever, I do believe that there are lots of Leica users (and new ones) that would be more then happy with camera like this, you’ll have me. SL with M lenses is too big and cumbersome.

lct Posted March 4, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 4, 2017 I have no info about Leica plans but i would not hold my breath. The next "impure" M won't be a rangefinder i'm afraid but i may be wrong.
sdk Posted March 4, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 4, 2017 Give me a 36MP or 42MP Leica M-P please. I'd love an RF camera with a higher res sensor and superior add on EVF to the Typ 240.I really don't care what the next advancement in the M line is called, but somehow I doubt it will be the Leica M Typ 250, after all they have the M-D Typ 262 which is like a stripped down M Typ 240. The M camera should always retain the mechanical rangefinder focusing mechanism; if it doesn't, it ceases to be an M camera and becomes something else. That's my take on the rangefinder issue, though others may see things differently. The SL camera should satisfy the technophiles and their hunger for an integral EVF, even if it is a bit on the portly side. As far as the M10's successor, I wouldn't complain if it had a 36 mp sensor as long as it had high ISO performance equal to or better than the M10. Leica just gave us the M10, though; maybe we should enjoy it and stop obsessing over its future replacement.
lct Posted March 4, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 4, 2017 [...] Leica just gave us the M10, though; maybe we should enjoy it and stop obsessing over its future replacement. Too "pure" for me i'm afraid and the sluggish EVF is a deal breaker. I will wait for a modern rangefinder if any but i don't hold my breath... ECohen Posted March 4, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 4, 2017 Leica will continue making its current mechanical rangefinder as long as we continue to buy it and the lenses. No profit no rangefinder......its business.......I think well be buying it for a very long time. duckrider Posted March 5, 2017 Share #13 Posted March 5, 2017 May I ask what is 36 or 42 Mpix for? Even M8 shooters were able to take a picture where subjekt was recognisable... Thomas
michaelwj Posted March 5, 2017 Share #14 Posted March 5, 2017 M11 will be further 0.9mm slimmer good enough reason to update in 4 years Really! 0.9mm! I'll hold off on my purchase then! I can't wait until the body is so slim that the lens mount sticks out at least 1cm, and you need a grip to hold it. As slim as a film M, nah, we want it slimmer! ECohen Posted March 5, 2017 Share #18 Posted March 5, 2017 High MP allows me to carry one less lens. I do crop when no one is watching. I had an anti-cropping fetish ! That fetish was with me for 40 years Then I started shooting with the M240. At first I too cropped when no one was looking. Now I consider myself in full anti-cropping recovery. I still try to get it all in the camera but I'm not at all militant about cropping anymore There are many ways to make a photograph, embrace them all.
