M10 RF calibration at distance

I'm a member of a Facebook group and a member has just posted this about the RF and focussing accurately at distance. Seems it's common with other members of the FB group.

He wrote:

"Could those also with M10 cams please try something out for me. I know the range finder focus is now optimised for around 2 metres but I am finding focusing a subject at distances say 15-20 metres and onwards creates a slight mismatch overlay in the focus rectangle. It doesn't properly 'snap' in like the mp240. One image overlay is fractionally higher than the other. I am very happy with portrait focusing but for focus critical shooting at further distances, it is difficult to have assured focus."

Can we test this with the forum membership. I have a horrible feeling this is going to drive me insane if it's an actual problem. I'd consider leaving Leica land if I can't be assured of nailing focus.

I don't know about that facebook groop, but from the description I can make two comments:

- the range finder focus is not optimized for 2 meters. It is the frame line size, which is optimized for 2 meter distance. But this has nothing to do with focussing.

- if there is a vertical mismatch between the focus patches, this a misalignment of the range finder. This has nothing to do with the focus distance and just has to be readjusted. This should not happen with a brand new camera, but a hard shock can be the cause for this.

That's what I thought. Other seem to be reporting the same issue though..

The post continues:

"If you were to focus on a 20mm pebble/stone around 8 metres away, you will see the moving version of the image pass over the static one in the range finder for focus but the moving version appears slightly higher than the static..i.e. When they aligned upright it is in focus but one version is slightly higher. This is a little annoying when trying to match up facial features with a 75mm apo at that distance."

All I remember is the absolute ball-ache I had with the rf not calibrated properly on my M240 and it took weeks and weeks of testing and hair pulling to get it sorted.

I have no issues focusing at a distance at all...

Are those reporting the issue wearing glasses?

Are they new rangefinder owners?

The M10 is no different than any previous Leica RF...if you haven't had issues in the past, you won't have them with the M10.

And don't expect miracles...the rangefinder on the M10 is only slightly improved.

I was exaggerating...its the same one you are commenting in. Its three pages long full of comments and misinformation.

The one on FB?

Well i asked the guy some questions- I'm trying to figure out if he's using the camera properly or there's an alignment issue.
