An experiment:  This photo was taken out a window of the apartment where we stay much of the winter.  I was curious as to what a 1/4 black diffusion filter would do, particularly to the highlights.  (I think that's where the effect is most noticeable there but others' experiences may differ; I like the "bloom" which I think is most evident with the lighting.)  This is an uncropped image; hand-held at 1/15 sec, f1.8 ISO 1000.  I took a similar shot with an EV of -1 and I can't decide which I like better.

The highlights in this image appear well-controlled. I haven't personally used a Black Diffusion Filter, but I've seen striking examples in dreamy portraiture (though none specifically with the Leica Q). I'm curious to see how it might render images when used with the Leica Q. Perhaps you could experiment with portraiture and share the results here? Thanks in advance.

This is such a fabulous thread and does absolutely nothing to change my perception that original Q delivers the most pleasing images ❤️

Might have to put one on my wish list.

I've been a loyal user of the original Leica Q (Typ 116) for nearly eight years, and never considered seeking a replacement for my daily driver. However, the recent release of the Leica Q3 43 has certainly piqued my interest. Fortunately, the Q3 43's price tag remains beyond my current budget, so I'm committed to maximizing the potential of my Typ 116 for the foreseeable future. I believe that with careful image processing techniques, I can closely emulate the aesthetic of the Q3 43 using my existing camera.

Naturally, if budgetary constraints (and my wife's approval) weren't a factor, the Q3 43 would undoubtedly become a cherished addition to my daily shooting arsenal.

Ahhhhh, the ‘43’. That’s another attraction all together! Like you, I don’t see one of those in my future any time soon but I would like to.
