Southwest of Colorado Springs about 75 miles and near the town of Westcliffe, Colorado, is a very unique structure - Bishop's Castle. I has been built over nearly 60 years by one very eccentric man. It is a great place to visit if you're in southern Colorado and a favorite to bring out of town guests to see.

Wow. Weird, in a wow sort of way.

Wonderful shot..mysterious green light..what is it?

I love the symmetry. Looks like inside a silo? Where / what is it?

Thank you very much guys! This is the camera obscura at the top of the Clifton Observatory. The hole in the middle is a convex lens with a rotated sloping mirror (you can rotate it using the handle with the wheels) and at the bottom there is a round screen where the light gets projected, but there is some light pollution where the light enters so you can see in the photo a bit of sky on the right and the green of the forests on the left.

Thank you so much for all the information about the building Dan! It looks amazing, it will definitely be a destination when on some point come over to Colorado!

It is also very interesting that you posted these photos today, where it is exactly 92 years from the death of Antoni Gaudí (10 June 1926), a catalan Architect that built lots of buildings of similar style! I don't know, maybe I am over-stretching it a bit, but the style of the Bishop's Castle reminded me the style of "La Sagrada Familia" (in a smaller and lighter version of course)!

Almost Gaudiesque in a rustic kind of way.

Near Mobridge, South Dakota is a monument to Sitting Bull and serves as his Tombstone. Sitting Bull was a very famous Hunkpapa Lakota Chief who played a big role in defeating General George Armstrong Custer at the battle of the Little Bighorn in June 1876. The monument was carved by the late Korczak Ziolkowski, who began carving the Crazy Horse monument near Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The monument is set on a hillside and overlooks a beautiful section of the the Missouri river. The very same river that Lewis and Clark came up in 1804 on their Voyage of Discovery to the west coast of the US.
