Tripod for SL

Use a bean bag, I can't really see the point of a tripod unless it's going to be big enough to work and a table top tripod with say an SL plus a 24-90 is going to be an absurd combination.

Not 'absurd'; HD table top tripods have a myriad of uses which is why e.g. Berleback offer their mini model which is capable of supporting 15kg … add a suitable ball head e.g. an Arca for a very versatile mini camera/lens support.

There is also the Gitzo GT3320GS

If they were 'absurd', established reputable manufacturers would not design and manufacture them.

However, if planning  SL' selfie' photography, a lens tripod collar is advisable to prevent the combination toppling over

… I made an SL tripod collar by recycling an astronomical telescope mounting ring

I tried the Leica table top tripod on my SL with 24-90. While it will work using the longest leg to support the 24-90 out front, it is a very precarious situation to put your $10,000 camera in. Not advised.

The manfrotto pixie evo is light enough to carry around without noticing and works with M lenses on the SL, but the native lenses are too heavy for the ballhead.

Beyond that, you are into the series 0, 1 or even 2 Gitzo sticks with a small Gitzo or Arca Swiss ball head.

The Gitzo should be a very nice choice, I checked it seem discontinued , Small and sturdy mini tripod.

I have the RRS (Really Right Stuff) BC-18 Micro Ball   which is rated for 10lb (4.5 kg) load capacity, attached to the RRS TFA-01 Pocket Pod legs

which is rated for 100 lbs.

It feels solid under the SL with the Summilux-SL 50mm. (I don't have have the 24-90) The RRS TFA-01 is discontinued, but there are 2 newer models.

I've initially used my SL with a Joby SLR, which was quite convenient and good for tabletop work, but these tend to get wobbly within months of use. After catching the camera in mid-flight on 2 occassions I scrapped it and got the smallest Gitzo traveller (GT2545T). Pricey (around $600 us as bought in Singapore), but amazing light, sturdy, usable as a regular tripod but at the same timecan be used for tabletop work (just get a big table :) . The most amazing thing is that the size of it when fully collapsed is practically identical to the mentioned Joby (which is quite small, especially in comparison to the camera). And weight slightly more. In general - highly recommend it!
