BBHewee Posted January 27, 2017 Share #1 Â Posted January 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am the proud owner of a gorgeous Noctilux v4 in mint condition and 6-bit coded. I love the pictures that come out of it, but I don't feel I'm doing it justice by using it only occasionally. I sold a Lux 24 a while ago, and miss that lens more than I thought I would. But in order to buy that again, I would preferably sell the Nocti (and the Elmar 24 that I wouldn't keep either). Again the Lux 24 wouldn't see the most regular use out of my lenses, but it would more than the Nocti, looking at my picture library. Does it make sense to offload the Nocti? Should I just keep it and buy the Lux 24? Cheers.
Advertisement Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Hi BBHewee, Take a look here Sell Noctilux to finance a Lux 24?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Steve Ash Posted January 27, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted January 27, 2017 Keep it for a while and by the Lux 24. If you feel you do not use it sell it finally.
michaelwj Posted January 27, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted January 27, 2017 I'm going to go against the mob and say yes. If you're not using it and it doesn't bring joy then sell it. You don't have to like the Noctilux, and there is no prize for having the most lenses. As you know, if you find you want it again then you can buy another later. schmolinski Posted January 27, 2017 Share #4 Â Posted January 27, 2017 Selling any Lux is almost always wrong. As soon as it has gone it will be missed...! I can tell you from my own experience. I owned a 24 Lux as you. I sold it to finance other things. The same happened with my 75 Lux. Missing both like hell. The new owner rejected from selling it back, the 75 Lux. This was by far the best lens I ever owned. Â Anyhow it is a luxury problem. So if you can afford the 24 buy it an definitely keep your nocti. You will miss it sooner or later. NB23 Posted January 27, 2017 Share #5 Â Posted January 27, 2017 Or do like me: Listen to all the people telling you to never sell a summilux and buy a 75 lux And then, never use it for 7 years. Â *scratching my head
michaelwj Posted January 28, 2017 Share #6 Â Posted January 28, 2017 The other side is, if no one ever sells a lens, how can others buy them? Do we have to wait for deceased estate auctions, hoping that the executor bothers to sell old camera lenses? There are only a few thousand 75/1.4s in existence for example, and the number will just get lower as accidents happen. If you don't use it, you owe it to the Leica community to allow someone else the pleasure.

Cheers.  I have the same Noctilux and like you, I use it only occasionally, not all the time. It is sort of a lens for special projects to me, and it is a keeper - I cannot see myself ever selling/trading it.  I would advise against parting ways with your Noctilux, but if you need the 24 Summilux more than you need/use the Noctilux, it could possibly be the right move. Just think long and hard before making the leap.  I ended up trading away my pre-ASPH 50 Summilux millenium, and have missed it a lot. My reasoning was that since I had the Noctilux, I didn't really need the Summilux and the Noctilux would fill the 50mm spot on my roster. Theoretically that is true, but the 50 Summilux has its own fingerprint; it is much more user friendly as an all-around 50 than the Noctilux thanks to its smaller size and lower weight.  Moral of the story - think carefully before parting ways with any piece of M kit. Mark Pope Posted January 28, 2017 Share #8 Â Posted January 28, 2017 It's a tricky one. Â I think my inclination would be to say keep the Noctilux, but sell the 24mm elmar. Â I think you may regret selling the Noctilux.

iaeaix Posted January 28, 2017 Share #10 Â Posted January 28, 2017 Why not? If you do not use the 50 much, imo it is better to get the 24 Lux which I suppose you will put it in use more. If cash is not a concern, then the situation would be different, why not keep both. Â Â Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DMJ Posted January 28, 2017 Share #11 Â Posted January 28, 2017 Made one mistake you regret & now looking at making another. Good plan.
a.noctilux Posted January 28, 2017 Share #12 Â Posted January 28, 2017 Lenses come and go, I must admit that Noctilux 50mm and Summilux 75mm are the ones that stay for a while, if not for ever with me. Â As side note, I had two Summilux 75mm (in case of accident ), and to be fair to Leica community, I sold one to a user who was after one for a while. Herr Barnack Posted January 28, 2017 Share #13  Posted January 28, 2017 Made one mistake you regret & now looking at making another. Good plan.   Sounds totally like something I would do.  Oh, wait: That's something I already did do - first with with my CV 35/1.2 Nokton and then my 50 Summilux millennium.  Apparently I'm a slow learner... BBHewee Posted January 29, 2017 Author Share #14 Â Posted January 29, 2017 Haha point taken. I'll get the Lux 24 and then figure out what to do with the Nocti. Â My Lux 75 I would never let go of, if that makes me less of an idiot at all?
Alo Ako Posted January 29, 2017 Share #15  Posted January 29, 2017 Never sell a Nocti...except when you want to finance another Nocti
Adrian Lord Posted January 29, 2017 Share #16 Â Posted January 29, 2017 I regretted selling my F1 Â - ended up getting another. It worked out well though because the second one was not only great price by is a 'good' one, and far sharper than the first.
dritz Posted February 1, 2017 Share #17 Â Posted February 1, 2017 Can't you just chop the nocti in half and end up with two 25mm 1.4 lenses? That's close to 24mm. Keep one and sell the other. Â It's just math.
proenca Posted February 11, 2017 Share #18 Â Posted February 11, 2017 As others said, if you dont need to sell the Nocti, don't. Â I sold mine to fund a 0.95 Noct and then sold that as well. In retrospect, I miss my 1.0 noctilux baldy. Not the 0.95 though. Â Selling lens you like but dont use that much, its a bad move. When their gone, you going to miss them dearly and bang with your head in a wall and cry. Like you doing now for your 24 lux. Â Bottom line : sell the Elmarit, keep the Nocti and buy the 24 lux. 349A Posted February 11, 2017 Share #20  Posted February 11, 2017 I wouldn't ever sell my Noctilux F/1, its such a magical lens. I also never quite understood the need for a wide angle summilux. I suppose I always think of the wide angle lens as a landscape lens, mostly. When would you ever need 1.4 on a landscape lens. Just my thoughts. Spend $1000-1500 and get the 24/2.8, fantatic lens and fast enough and keep the F1.
