I have put my name down the waitlist for the M10 Monochrom with my local Leica dealer today, can’t wait

So, it comes.

Where to find the information of the Monochrom M10 release ?

How long your Leica Dealer gave you waiting time ?

Hi anoctilux,

You can find the information through your local authorised Leica store and they usually have an idea on the estimated time of arrival.

My local Leica store gave an estimated time of 12 months.

A year more to continue enjoying my dear original Monochrom, then.

Has anyone heard of a IR conversion on a Monochrom? I'm afraid to ask Kolarivision or Lifepixels if they can do it, because what if they say yes? I'd probably do it.

But I'm considering maybe when the M10 monochrom comes out getting that and converting my M246 to IR. That would be a pretty awesome set up I think

Why not try on a M9?

I have done the conversion on a Leica T with Lifepixels. Came out well. But I doubt they would do it on an M due to complexity. Think I asked back then, and they said no. Besides, why would you do this to a monochrome? If one of these conversion companies is willing to touch an M, would be much more economical to get a used M 240 or older. The resolution on infrared conversions goes down also, so be aware of this. Rather, they probably would convert a CL or TL. Maybe even a Q. The other thing to consider, once you do conversion, voids your warranty. I chose to do on a used T. Works great!

As someone with an X1d and the 246, I agree on the X1d being better choice for IQ except it is a much slower camera. I have done tests between the two and the X1d edges out the 246, but not by much in resolution when doing b/w conversion. But the X1d plus native lenses is still a significant cost difference. Given that the X1d is superior, I have tried to talk myself into getting rid of my 246. But because the M is still more convenient and quick, I keep both. I will also mention the tones out of the X1d may be more pleasing to those that prefer the MM1. Would imagine the GFX would be as good for b/w.

Have you tried the 50 APO on the M246? I wonder how that would compare to an X1D. I'm debating whether to get an X1D but one of the things I love about the M246 and the small Leica lenses I use is their light weight. I do landscapes and oftentimes hike up mountains, every gram counts! I suppose the X1D isn't that much bigger, but I use tiny Leica lenses (pre-ASPH 50 f/2, 28 f/2.8) and I clamber around waterfalls, up steep cliffsides, etc.

A Leica T is a good idea, less risky too in case there's a problem. Did you have any problems with IR hot spots and M lenses?

Yes, not all m lenses work well. My favorite lens using IR is a Summilux 35mm, but even it has a hot spot I have to be careful with on the IR. Depends on direction of light, the severity, so I try and shield it when needed. I am waiting to grab either a used TL or CL to have converted in the future. Probably long wait until they come down in price. The T found used is a steal, and works well. But more pixels for IR would be nice.

Well, yes, tried one and it’s not my personal cup of tea for monochrome. Way too sharp and clinical. But if sharpness is what you are after, then you would probably love the lens on the monochrome. Weight wise between X1d and M, seems about the same. The X1d is a tad bulkier but you hardly notice because so well designed. Both great cameras.

What's with this 'clinical' I hear repeated all the time? It is the clarity and transparency that takes getting used to. The 50 Summilux is nearly as sharp but the touch of glow at ƒ/1.4 and the bokeh that exerts its presence makes you think otherwise. By ƒ/5.6 (maybe even ƒ/4), the images are indistinguishable from those out of a Summilux, Elmar M or Summicron v.5.

If one doesn’t like the character of a lens, no need to get used to it. The blinding clarity of that lens will appeal to some and not to others. I personally prefer older lenses on the monochrome, pre Aspherical. The look they give is more appealing to my tastes. Softer with less clarity. Different strokes for different folks.

nobody's really mentioned the shooting speed of the M10...five frames per second! I could use that extra speed on an M10M. On the M10 it's noisier than my M9M-ccd but it's great.

I recently got an M10 but have a separate set of older glass exclusively for the M9M: CV 3,5/28, 35 Summaron 2.8, Canon 50/1.4 LTM, Canon 100/2 LTM.

But I still love the contrast & clarity of the 21 SEM,  ZM 35C and 50 APO on the MM at times.
