jmahto Posted January 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) With all the recent M10 excitement, I was remembering my own M240 crush. This picture was taken in July 2013 by M9 in a Leica showroom at Frankfurt airport. At that time everybody was talking about M240 for months and camera was hardly available. The shopkeeper had two M240 which he was selling at $1000 more than the list price. I had to say no.... It took me another year and half to finally get my own M240. Do you remember your M240 crush? M240 is the top right one (left one is Monochrom) Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! AAK Posted January 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 20, 2017 This is digital photography and the constant upgrade cycle. It may be slower for some companies than for others, but there is always the temptation to buy the latest gizmo when it comes out. Better sensors, more megapixels, wifi...faster wifi...more of this...better that... One way to get off the treadmill is to be counter-cultural and shoot film. Or be happy with what you have...Today's 240MP is an amazing camera. We have long passed the time when Megapixels matter......for most of us. I shot film for a long, long time. Today's world is digital and my darkroom is now a computer and digital printer. Honestly its a different medium than film but just as good....in many ways better, now that cameras have caught up. My MP at ISO1600 is far better than Tri x in Accufine........especially with a bit of post PS

It is after all the camera for black and white photo I wanted and saved up for, and it's not a lesser camera even though a new monochrom with better specs eventually turns up. It is in essence all the camera I could wish for and I'm going to stay loyal to it!
epand56 Posted January 21, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 21, 2017 At the time the M240 was available, I was using my M8, that still is with me. That's why i bought the M 240, because I wanted a full frame camera and compared to the M8 it was a real change. Now, the M 10 looks to me like an M 240 with 3mm tickness less. Not enough to unchain my frenzy. At the moment, the M 240 is still far ahead of my skill, so I'll pass the hand and wait for the M 12 or M 11 or whatever will come out in say three-four years. TomB_tx Posted January 22, 2017 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2017 The M240 never tempted me, as I was happy with my M9 and didn't find the added features of the 240 applicable to my use. However, after adding an A7 for my R lenses and getting some interesting moonlight results I find higher ISO appealing. So I jumped on an M10 waiting list, and was told maybe March. Should be time enough to save up.
jmahto Posted January 22, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted January 22, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Upgrading from M9 to M240 made a significant and practical improvement to my nighttime photography. The following shot is not possible with M9. I shot it handheld at ISO1600, f/2, 1/30sec. This is kind of lowest light I shoot in handheld. Lower than this and I will be prepared with my tripod. AndrewDD Posted January 24, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 24, 2017 I was travelling around South America when the M240 was announced. I remember spending a morning on the phone from Lima back to the Leica shop in Mayfair to place a reservation. The camera arrived 3 months later, a couple of weeks after I got home, one of the first in the UK. It now has probably 200,000+ images on the clock and it's still going strong. No upgrade for me!
