scott kirkpatrick Posted February 8, 2017 Share #201 Posted February 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I visited the Leica corner of the photoshop in Terminal Z at Frankfurt yesterday on my way through. Their M10 demonstrator goes on sale today. I gave it a short workout with my 28/2.8 Asph (new model) and it did fine. It had the newer firmware 1.0.2.0, and the staffer i spoke to said that there was a functional difference between the earliest (1.0.1.0) and the current firmware. More items now fit on the favorites page in the menu. Note -- I don't know if there is any price adjustment for this one being a demonstrator It looked untouched, but had worked the frame number up to 5000. scott

IronLion Posted February 8, 2017 Share #204 Posted February 8, 2017 I got this update from B&H today by email: We are sorry to inform you that the LEICA M 10 DIGITAL CAMERA- BLACK CHROME is on back order by the manufacturer with no estimated time of delivery. As soon as we receive it from the manufacturer, we will promptly ship it to you and you will receive an email with a tracking number at that time. We apologize for this delay and for any inconvenience. Looks like there will be a bit of a wait ahead.
349A Posted February 8, 2017 Share #205 Posted February 8, 2017 I do wish Leica would be more clear to each dealer as to how many they will receive and when. I'm patient, I just like to have some idea of when to expect my purchases. I ordered five minutes after the announcement email from a Leica store. They can't tell me anything, not how far down the list I am, what month or year I might see the M10. It would be nice if they said May/June or March/April, I don't need an exact date, just a reasonable estimate. When I ask, I get a simple "we have no idea."

@ndy_ellis Posted February 8, 2017 Share #210 Posted February 8, 2017 Part of the charm is what I infer. Classic car/vintage watch/audiophile territory. Quite blokey too
Vern Dewit Posted February 8, 2017 Share #211 Posted February 8, 2017 Ah bless him. His first Leica? Does he know? I remember my first new Leica. I was all flustered when it would periodically just stop working for no reason at all and I'd have to take out the battery (M240). I remember being angry that I'd paid thousands of dollars for such a "glitchy" machine. Eventually I came to realize it's all part of the charm. You either hate it or learn to live with it! scott kirkpatrick Posted February 8, 2017 Share #212 Posted February 8, 2017 Part of the charm is what I infer. Classic car/vintage watch/audiophile territory. Quite blokey too That does capture some of it. Some dealers only accept prepaid deposits, others don't. Some let you know where you stand on each of their lists, prepaid or just interested. The official Leica Stores seem to be more careful and less informative than then occupants of the less upscale parts of this souk. Once a new product surfaces, there are key roles to be played, dividing up into newbs, veterans, and a not insignificant number of gurus. It is fun to watch the gurus working to bring the newbs up to speed, all the while carefully positioning themselves so that they won't be confused with mere veterans. And stand clear if a disagreement should arise between the experts! scott
scott kirkpatrick Posted February 8, 2017 Share #213 Posted February 8, 2017 Did they mention why they were selling the demo camera? Only that it could be sold after a particular date (maybe a month from announcement? We know that stores which sell their demo too soon are subject to serious, but secret punishment. A member of this forum showed pictures from his SL before he was supposed to have one, and then fell quite silent for a few weeks. After the embargo ended, he had a lot of pictures to show, but he never named his source. I bet the EXIF gave them all away, and justice was swift. scott
349A Posted February 8, 2017 Share #214 Posted February 8, 2017 Ah bless him. His first Leica? Does he know? Not my first Leica at all. M8, M9, M9M, S006, S007, SL... too many lenses if such a thing as too many is possible.
Rambot-M Posted February 8, 2017 Share #215 Posted February 8, 2017 I think people who already gone through this wait ordeal at least once are better off than newbies like me. I've got a classic car, a full blown audiophile setup, and Leica camera and lenses! I'm about charmed out. Then again, maybe I should start looking at vintage watches.
