I can't say that i understand the complex inner workings of Leica, but i don't see how the in-house, hand-construction of any model camera's currently being made could possibly be interrupted or intentionally delayed because the company is also working to sell stock or back-stock of already constructed merchandise. I don't see these 2 separate company functions as having a cause and effect on each other nor does it seem likely this is a "master-minded" sales ploy.

I would imagine the assemblers are hard at work everyday producing as much as possible and not involved or concerned with what the sales dept. might be doing or discounting. Leica needs to make many M10's to fill the obvious world-wide demands.

The M240 has NOT been discontinued either, so the term "GET RID OF THEM" doesn't seem very appropriate to me either.

In my opinion, this theory doesn't seem even remotely possible or logical.

 

I'm not saying that Leica has slowed down production of the M10, only that they may have an interest in limiting its distribution while the backlog of 240-series bodies is cleared out during their rebate program. Leica may not have officially discontinued the 240, yet, but I'll bet they're no longer building new ones, either.

I am extremely fortunate to be one of the lucky few to get hold of this gem of a camera, but my wife and I have been hit with an unexpectedly heavy tax bill (nanny taxes we severely underestimated did not help). So, as much as it would hurt me to give this up, I have asked myself "what is my magic number?" That number, to go to the rear on an M10 waiting list, is $15,000.

I don't expect to sell, heck I don't want to. But if there is a Leica lover with better means (truly first world problems) than myself willing to pay this amount for immediate access to this beautiful camera on Saturday, then I will go back to the rear of the line and be in a much better place to afford when my name gets called again. Hopefully then a win-win for the right person.

So... if you are seriously interested, please respond to my post with your contact information and why you would pay $15k for the new Leica M10 (I need to somehow filter that you are a real person and genuine Leica enthusiast). I will only respond to serious inquiries I believe to be genuine.

So that you can have confidence that you are acquiring the real deal and protected, I will meet you at the camera store and "transfer ownership" with purchase receipt, introducing you to the salespeople I have been badgering for Leica updates the last 3+ months.

Thank you to jarek0423 for the heads up on the M10 Silver available today at Florham Village Camera in NJ.  I called them after reading your post and bought the camera.  Gary was the sales guy and was terrific.  He just got his shipment today from Leica.  I subsequently cancelled my order from B&H from January 20.

ok, i'll bother to mention this again... really, the m240 is NOT discontinued and the master-mind m240 sales plot really does Not exist.

april fools day is over, that was a week ago. let's move forward.

leica is making and delivering m10 cameras.

some are lucky enough to have already been served, others still waiting. there is an apparent flow to how this runs with leica. i for one, accept it and am not griping as i feel fortunate and grateful enough that i have other camera toys to play with until my m10 eventually arrives.

You are making an assumption that Leica has a warehouse full of unsold cameras. I think Leica has been doing this long enough to know how many cameras to build...and according to Leica they are still building the M240.

 

They have to offer incentives to continue selling the M240...they cant continue to sell it for the same price point as the M10, its a 3 year old camera now. The camera  development has been paid for, its time to reduce the price and try to continue selling it as long as they can. No conspiracy theory, just smart business.

Its called marketing.

They will discontinue it once it no longer sells enough units to justify building them or they have component supply issues...whichever comes first.

It could very well be a prelude to discontinuing it, who knows...but it also could be purely marketing. Regardless, I can assure you that this has nothing to do with you not receiving your M-10. If you want a M-10 they can be bought with a little work. Someone just posted a dealer with inventory earlier tonight. Buying from a big dealer or a large box house is not the best way to get an early M during launch when Leica cant keep up with supply. This is the fastest M launch Ive ever seen in the digital era...they are shipping M10's faster than any previous version. I waited a year to get my M240.

I've been on a waiting list since January 19th. I was hoping to get a black M10 in time for a trip I'm taking in May, but it's not looking likely. I don't really need an M10. I have other perfectly good cameras I could take. But the M10 would have been ideal as part of a totable, high quality camera kit. If it doesn't arrive in the next few weeks I'll probably cancel and re-order later in the year.

You are not the only one. I've been waiting since middle Feb, passed a silver one last week, still waiting for a black version. I may cancel my order in May and stay with my TTL, if it doesn't arrive in next few weeks.

There is a similar Craigslist ad in LA for a black M10. Asking price is a "mere" $8,000. I'd not pay over retail for something that will be widely available within months but if one were desperate then it's a "bargain" versus $15,000.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news but I have just been speaking with Ffordes in Scotland , they are selling my Q for me and I asked them what their waiting list for the M10 was, months ! was the reply.

I also spoke with Richard Caplan in London, I am no. 10 on their list having put my name down at the release, they said that they have not had a M10 for over a fortnight. Any way I am sending them my M240 to sell on commission and will be getting my film cameras out in the meantime.
