stuny Posted January 15, 2017 Share #21 Posted January 15, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Find out if there will be bean bags in your vehicle. If not, bring an empty zippered bag and fillet with gravel, rice, small beans of sand before going out on your first game drive, and use it to steady the kens since you're not used to long lenses. jaapv Posted January 15, 2017 Share #22 Posted January 15, 2017 Especially on the Visoflex. As it has a considerable delay before firing, there is a realistic chance of lens droop. Most vehicles in the Masai Mara are flip-top, and very practical for bean bags.
Michael Hiles Posted January 16, 2017 Author Share #23 Posted January 16, 2017 The bean bag idea sounds very practical and useful. Handholding a 200mm lens AND getting sharp pictures would be a challenge. I may also put my table tripod and ball head into my luggage
honcho Posted January 24, 2017 Share #24 Posted January 24, 2017 ....Needless to say, I don’t want abrasive stuff (or anything else) getting into precision equipment and I would be grateful for experience-based advice and suggestions. I've been using the Ortlieb Day Shot waterproof backpack and the Aqua Cam and Aqua Zoom waterproof bags for a few years now. All have lived up the Ortlieb's claims and are very durable, totally sand, dust and waterproof. The backpack has traveled widely with me and I would not want to be without it. There's a review of the Ortlieb Day Shot, Aqua Cam and Aqua Zoom bags here: Welcome, dear visitor! Michael Hiles Posted January 24, 2017 Author Share #25 Posted January 24, 2017 Ortleib looks like good stuff from the pictures and links - many thanks for the referral. I'll look into availability roughly around here. I am also hoping that some care and common sense will have a positive impact.
