50mm f2.3 Baltar Bausch & Lomb

Funnily enough I had an eye test this afternoon where the nice young lady put my chin onto a 'chin pedestal' and shone lots of lights into my eyes and recorded the results and it was only afterwards that I noticed the machine was made by Bausch & Lomb.

I mentioned I'd recently seen pictures taken with Bausch & Lomb photographic lenses and she didn't know that they'd ever made photographic lenses (why should she?) but equally I didn't that they made eye testing equipment either so we had a good chuckle about that. :lol:

B&L invented that machine. The lens is not.

My first pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses, good old-fashioned 'Wayfarers', bought back in the '80s had a very discreet 'B+L' logo etched onto the surface at the extreme outer edge of one of the lenses; presumably as a mark of authenticity (Bausch & Lomb were the parent company at the time);

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray-Ban_Wayfarer

Famously (at least in the world of cycling!) the great Bernard Hinault - "Le Blaireau" ("The Badger")  - turned-down vast amounts of sponsorship money from competing sunglasses firms because, in his opinion, Ray-Ban were simply better-quality than the rest and, reportedly, he considered his eyesight to be worth more than their offerings in both senses of the expression.
