...This one is rather recent but appears to have been discontinued a couple of years ago...The first 7a rangefinder lens and a 7e/6g Sonnar inspired design...As with other 7a lenses, focus can be DIY-adjusted...and the early production copies came 6-bit coded (as a Noctilux) before Leica presumably asked its manufacturer to 'cease and desist'.
It took some flak on this forum and elsewhere not just because it was made in China, but perhaps also because people expected it to be a lower-cost alternative to fast Cosina lenses with a 'modern' rendering. If you get a good copy and are after a somewhat 'vintage' rendering, it's actually a pretty competent lens, esp. on post-M240 sensors where the edges are markedly better behaved...

I'm slightly surprised to hear that 7A might have discontinued production of their 50mm f1.1 Cheap'n'Cheerful NotaNoctilux.

I first bought one (in Black-Chrome) assuming that it would be very much the f1-One-Trick-Pony and was very pleasantly surprised to see how it performed as an every-day-carry 50. So happy was / am I with the way it renders that I bought a second copy in Silver-Chrome...

As the lens(es) weren't 'Old Glass' at the time none of these snaps would have been posted on this thread although they certainly HAVE been posted elsewhere in the Forum. I don't have my hard-drive to hand so don't have access to the originals therefore these are merely 'rescues' from the Forum's memory-bank at very low-res (900x600) but anyhow; a few pics using the 7A 50mm f1.1 either wide-open or, for the 'two girls' pic at f1.4;

To post something other than from a 135mm.

These are from 2022.

I don't think I really appreciated this lens at the time, my head was turned by a 50mm Summilux Asph.

I now wish I still had this lens, just for the gentle rendering.

I was frustrated by my own ineptitude, often forgetting to extend the lens, so eventually I’d leave it extended when on the camera.

All hope may not be lost. Kobayashi-san looked into his crystal ball 15 years ago and heard your plea...😉
Hence the rigid, “10th Anniversary” edition. Same optics as far as I can tell, but a nice nickel finish and a thinner barrel. Limited to 600 copies in 2009 – but not too difficult to find in flawless condition in Japan – and therefore a bit pricey, but not outrageously so.

(In keeping with the thread’s rules: picture taken with the converted 1964 CZJ Biotar 70/1.6 on the M11M, wide open @ MFD)

The Folly, Sydenham Hill Wood.

The Folly was built, in the mid-1860's, to stand in the grounds of a large mansion; one of a number of such vast edifices erected in this then-fashionable part of London shortly after the Crystal Palace was opened in 1854. It was constructed to kindle thoughts of an ancient abbey; perhaps one destroyed during 'The Dissolution of the Monasteries' which process was instigated in 1536 by King Henry VIII.

Unfortunately almost all of these properties were demolished sometime after the end of WWII and nothing now remains of those once palatial homes. Somewhat ironically The Folly itself, originally designed to merely resemble a ruin, is itself now becoming one in reality.

Philip.
