Not really "old glass", but discontinued. Blame it on Cosina, who keeps releasing and retiring products faster than a high-street fashion retailer...🙄😉

This raises an interesting point. If a lens has been discontinued rather than replaced by a newer model does it qualify? It might be an idea to get clarification from Pete on this matter. I've just had a look at the first post where Pete set out his ideas for the thread and this is what he wrote back then;

There's no restriction on the type of lens except that it should not be the current model...

The 35mm f1.7 ASPH is no longer listed on Voigtlander's website. My take on the situation would be that it as is no longer current it should (probably) qualify but I don't make the rules.

If lenses which have been dropped but not replaced by a newer version built to the same specification (in terms of f/length and max. aperture) are not allowed then I, myself, might have transgressed the rules as recently as yesterday by posting an image snapped on the 50mm f1.5 Summarit; a lens which made way for the 50mm f1.4 Summilux.

Here's something also shot on a lens which was superceded rather than replaced by an identically spec'd update;

Happy for Pete to clarify further, but my understanding is that a lens is allowed as long as it's not current. So, for example, the Summicron 28/2 ASPH v1 is allowed here, but not the current v2 - at least until Leica discontinues it, irrespective of whether or not they release a v3. Ditto for the Summilux 35/1.4 ASPH pre-FLE or any of the recent Summarits. There were several such posts (including some of mine IIRC) in this thread, which did not incur Pete's wrath. So, I guess your Summarit 50/1.5 is safe...😉

As the reluctant arbiter, my simplified view is that as long as a lens is no longer available new* from a manufacturer then it qualifies for this thread.  (*'New old stock' that's no longer manufactured qualifies as well of course.)

I always felt that the distinction needed to be reasonably clear, easy to follow, and unchanging to encourage members to share their pictures (which you all have very kindly done for 10+ years and have therein contributed to the continued success and enjoyment of this thread).

Cosina Voigtlander's actions in producing new products quickly and often and 'retiring' other products has obscured the matter slightly perhaps but I see no reason to move away from what's in the opening post. 🙂

Pete.

A lens from 2015 does not really fit the title of this thread.

I'd agree with you, but then what about particular situations (example below)? I think Pete chose a pragmatic approach when he started this thread, but perhaps it would now make sense to "ban" ASPH and APO lenses from here? Just a thought. Pete, what do you think?

Edit: I see my post and Pete's crossed each other.
