Ecar Posted May 3, 2020 Share #5742 Posted May 3, 2020 Many thanks. Yes, it's very much lived in. It's actually my "lair in the mountains" - a very peaceful place that occasionally serves as a lens testing ground 😉. In order to adhere to the thread's rules, here's another one from the same session, this time with the M240 + 1955 Angenieux R1 Retrofocus 35/2.5 Exakta converted to M and RF coupled. Ecar Posted May 3, 2020 Share #5743 Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) Again, M240 + converted 1955 Angenieux R1 Retrofocus 35/2.5 An interesting conversion : a new helicoid could be fitted to the Exakta mount, which provides focus through the rangefinder from infinity down to about 65cm - while the original helicoid has been retained and allows uncoupled focus in the 30-65cm range via LV/EVF. Illustration below: 1st picture at RF MFD, 2nd picture at EVF MFD, both handheld @ f/2.5. Welcome, dear visitor! Wide open rather soft and not too shapr in detail, but at 4.5 and 9 it looks pretty good. Lex

pattyfrank Posted May 4, 2020 Share #5751 Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) Not terribly exotic like the fine lenses recently displayed here, but a recent acquisition that is already earning a permanent spot in my heart. The size/weight is one its best attributes for me personally, sharp, fills a missing macro spot, opens distant landscapes and portraits. What's not to like. Version 4 is not exactly what you can call it: it is the first collapsible 90 which is macro and the second collapsible as far as I know. Very nice lens though Edited May 5, 2020 by otto.f
pgk Posted May 5, 2020 Share #5756 Posted May 5, 2020 M9 c/w 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit v.1 - oddly enough this rather unusual lens does appear to perform better at closer focus than infinity although whether this is simply to do with a more three dimensional, closer subject which doesn't show the poor corner performance due to image field curvature I cannot say at the moment. At infinity corners are not good even at f/8-11. Welcome, dear visitor! Thanks for the in-depth report Otto. It is good that you are so often putting me straight. Do not have the depth of knowledge you exhibit and it is why I checked and received clearance from the thread monitor (Pete) before posting. Pete. Please remove these two postings for Otto's sake. farnz Posted May 5, 2020 Author Share #5758 Posted May 5, 2020 3 hours ago, otto.f said: Is this old glass? I thought this was a modern lens, the second most recent? Hi Lot, Thank you for your concern. The opening post to this thread defines 'older glass' as "it should not be the current model" and Patty did check with me privately before posting so pattyfrank's pictures with the version 1 are very welcome in this thread because the version 1 is no longer made since it has been replaced by Leica with the version 2. @pattyfrank Please continue to post pictures from your 90/4 Macro-Elmar-M v1 in the thread. 🙂 Pete.

I hope you don’t mean this ironic because I didn’t mean to be picky or pedantic and certainly not to you personally (‘so often’?). And it is farnz’s thread so it’s ok with me what he finds old or modern. It’s just for the public here to state that it is highly unlikely that you can find such a sharp lens (well illustrated by your photo) under real old Leica lenses (for a few hundred bucks for instance).
