JMF Posted February 11, 2023 Share #10345 Posted February 11, 2023 (edited) Meanwhile I can share a photo taken with a UC 35/2 Hexanon with a M240 🌞 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! More "modern" than the Nikkor 35/1.8 - the UC Hexanon 35/2 is supposed to be very close to the Nikkor 1.8 in its design. Would love to see a comparision between this lens and Konica UC-Hexanon 35mm f2 LTM at f2.. Basically, similar optical design, but UC wins on flare resistance (not just VS the Nikkor but even when compared to any summicron 35), and better corner sharpness due to being a newer and more optimized lens. That being said, it’s 1/2 stops darker and introduces more distortion, whereas the original Nikkor has none. Rendering wise both lenses are lovely, if you have a black paint body the UC Hexanon looks beautiful, but it looks quite out of place with any other body color, as it’s quite a shiny black paint. I really love the bokeh coming out of these two lenses, which is very different from the double-gauss bokeh coming from the Leica 35mm lenses. The Leica 8e summicron for example, which to me has the most beautiful bokeh out of all Summicrons, is quite circular in its shape, whereas the UC/Nikkor are more swirly. JMF, feel free to provide further thoughts if you have any as I actually never used them side by side, but had both at different times. Lastly, price is a bit difference. The Nikkor costs now more than the summicron 8 elements, whereas the UC is still cheaper than any Leica 35mm summicron lens, and in my opinion, has a better rendering than any of them, minus perhaps the 8e. The Nikkor, given it’s brighter than the 8e, I put it in the same category as the Summilux pre-asph, and against it, it offers a better behaved glow wide open, and is sharper in the center at f1.8 / f2. From what I read online, it seems that at time of launch people reviewed the Nikkor favorably VS the Summicron 8 elements as well. From f2.8 all of the lenses referred here are very sharp and I can’t pick a winner. The only summicron lineup advantage over these two lenses is the closer focus of 0.7 vs 1m on the Nikkor and 0.9m on the UC. PS - My favorite 35mm lenses of all time are the Summilux Steel Rim, Nikkor f1.8, Summicron 8 elements and Elmar 35mm in case it’s useful context. Another Nikkor shot from yesterday on the M10M.
