M2 & Summicron 8 elements at f2.8 with Cinestill 400D

PS - I realized a lens I don’t see very often here is the Summaron 35mm f2.8, thought that there would be more fans of that lens in this thread : p just an observation nothing else

I just searched my Flickr page for Summaron - came up with 135 photos from my 1967 f2.8 on various M's, digital and film.  Hadn't realised I'd posted so many there, but there again it is eleven years or so since I bought it.

The lens is fantastic and so are the images. How did you modify the Dr. P. Rudolph Kleinbild-Plasmat 50/2.7 to M-Mount? Is there any standard kit for DIY? Very interesting. Somebody sells the same converted lens on ebay for 8,899 £

Thanks. Yeah, it's not too bad, except when it gets closer to infinity, where the left part of the image gets noticeably softer (see the 1st picture in my post). Probably some slight decentering there, not unusual with such old lenses, which I'll try to have fixed at some point. Plus, it's obviously uncoated - so veiling flare can sometimes be an issue.

This particular lens is otherwise in great condition and was salvaged from an unrepairable Krauss "Peggy Norm" camera. The price in that eBay listing is a bit preposterous, but do bear in mind that these lenses are quite rare - and therefore not cheap, unfortunately. Add to that the conversion cost, which is not cheap either. I'm afraid there's no DIY kit for this. If you are to do a proper job, which in my book implies in particular accurate RF coupling, you need a helicoid (either a new high-quality brass one or one from a donor lens), opto-mechanical expertise, quite a bit of tooling/equipment, steady hands and a lot of time. Best to leave that to an expert IMO.

If you are in the UK and want to get a lens converted, I'd recommend getting in touch with Chris Andreyo at Skyllaney. It may take time and money, but the quality of his work is stellar.

Now, since this thread is meant for pictures (right, Pete? 😉), here are a couple from another converted lens:

Yes, "converted" means "RF coupled". To me at least... Else I'd indicate that it's uncoupled or mention the adapter used - mostly from Amedeo, which also provide coupling for lenses in Contax and Nikon S (and Voigtlander Prominent) mounts.

M10M + converted 1949 CZJ Biotar 58/2 v2 (BP 17-blades version), wide open. Originally Exakta. And like all the v2 17-blades copies, it's postwar, and therefore also a "red T" (ie, coated) lens. The subject is one of my usual "test benches".

Not the fastest one around, but high resolution across the frame and very limited CA (aka "fringing") are not too distant from modern APO performance. Even the bokeh doesn't look bad. Rather impressive for a lens designed 70 years ago. Also not to be confused with the Nikkor-Q 50/3.5, its charming - but optically quite inferior - older sibling.

M10P ASC + 1956 Micro-Nikkor 50/3.5 LTM, both wide open at MFD (using the EVF, the MFD being about 45cm)
