hello,

what do you think it will be best choice to buy: a new Zeiss 50/1.5 or and used Leica Summilux 35mm f/1,4 de 1975 in very good conditions?

Do you have a 50mm? If yes,go for 35. Otherwise my question would be same as jrp.

Unanswerable. Buy a 50 mm lens if you want to use it for 50 mm type photographs, a 35 mm one for 35 mm type photographs. After that you can decide which brand/lens you prefer.

I'm not good at comparing different focal lengths but i like both my 'Lux 35/14 v2 and ZM 50/1.5 so i can suggest a couple of similarities and differences for what it's worth to answer the OP and for readers having both FF and crop cameras. Both unique lenses that one can love or hate depending on personal tastes and preferences mainly.

 

1. Both lenses have a small size.

2. Both lenses are rather soft at full aperture. Great lenses for soft portraits.

3. The 'Lux shows a lot of "glow" (halos around highlights) at f/1.4 whereas the ZM has little of it if any.

4. F/2 is a rather sharp aperture on both lenses in the center of the frame but borders and corners are sharper there with the ZM.

5. Both lenses are plenty sharp at f/2.8 and above when focus shift is not an issue.

6. Both lenses have some focus shift but that of the ZM is more pronounced to the point that i use it with mirrorless cameras only now.

7. The 'Lux flares a lot whereas the ZM is almost flare free.

Sorry but what I mean is a New zeiss 50/1.5 and an old summilux 50 f/1,4 From 1975! I was not comparing diferent focal distances (this was a mistake) but Just in the same focal diferent lens! Any comment please? Thanks

If the Summilux is in very good condition, I would go for it. You can buy a new Zeiss any time (except for that it is offered at a very good price at the moment).

Thank you very much and yes, I know Kenrockwell , but in fact, I think he his not so independent in his reviews , so normally I don't use them to think about my choices.

Right! I bought the Elmarit 90 f/2.8 because of his review and was not that much thrilled by the lens (too much flare, which he did not mention...). But, at least, he reviews alternatives to the 35mm lens and you can make up your own mind...

The Summilux 50/1.4 pre-asph is indeed a very fine lens. It is a taller lens than the ZM 50/1.5. It is a bit soft at f/1.4 but less so than the ZM and it has no focus shift contrary to the later. At f/2 and on both lenses are sharp (f/2) to very sharp (above) in the center of the frame but the 'Lux is softer in borders and corners below f/5.6. Also it has more CA than the ZM. Both lenses are almost flare free. All in all the 'Lux is a better fit on rangefinders while i prefer the ZM on mirrorless cameras but those are two lenses with character so it is a matter of tastes as usual.
