Old M6 door is definitely only compatible with first batch/early MP. Later MP cameras have new and improved electronics.the early ones, just like M6 are prone to failing leds inside the vf, for instance.

This ls definitely a very early MP with a late top plate.

Do you have a year/serial list by any chance?

No, I just go by what I know, and from all the years wasting time on foruns lol

The first batch MP were M6 in disguise, and a bit later they came out with a truly completely redesigned camera, which was the MP as we know it.

the test is simple, really. The M6/early MP door will not meter properly on later MP, and vice versa.

I much prefer the old door, by the way. But I also much prefer the real MP innards vs the M6.

Thanks, Mine is from 2002 I believe, so would never guessed yours was from 2007. You learn something new everyday!

...my other BP MP (#2983XXX) comes with an identical film speed dial - I bought it brand new in 2005. Some day we will make sense of Leica's numbering system. I'm not holding my breath, though. Incidentally, re: "2002", I believe this iteration of the MP was introduced in 2003. Thanks.

...erm, Capuccino-Muffin, are you able to provide some sort of dates, as opposed to "early" and "late"? I can confirm this camera was bought brand new in NY in 2007 - I still have all the original paperwork from the dealer and Leica.

I’m not into dating my gear. The new trend ala “summilux pre-asph ‘74 vs ‘81” kinda stuff is not where the Leica community should be going, IMO.

In this case, by “early MP” I’m talking about the 28 and very early 29xxx serials

You likely have a M6 inner body fitted with a MP top plate manufactured in 2006/07.

This would indeed make it a brand new 2007 MP, regardless.

Mine also has that.

I am guessing it's the wifi to transfer the photos from the negative to the computer ;).

But just curious if anybody knows what's the purpose of that tiny circle there.

I never even thought about it before, but now I need to know!
