andym911 Posted March 30, 2011 Share #2121 Posted March 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you're referring to ZoomP's MP, it's an MP Classic. No meter. Explains the meter groove on the shutter speed dial. Do I understand then that there are 2 versions of the MP? With and without meter and the Classic is with no meter? Never knew that....so an MP Classic is really an M2 :-) ANDY

MP Classic is a limited edition set (total 500) with a black paint 50/2 summicron lens. More information about MP Classic (from A visual library on selective LEICA M-Series rangefinder cameras) http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/Leica/Leica-M3/Leica-MP/index4.htm Rgds Edited March 30, 2011 by cwcheung

I'm not sure that counts as a separate "version" seeing as it wasn't in regular production and availability.

lincoln_m Posted April 5, 2011 Share #2125 Posted April 5, 2011 Does the lens carrier "handle" thing make for less or more camera shake? Regards, Lincoln
bill Posted April 6, 2011 Share #2126 Posted April 6, 2011 Less, IMO. It adds mass, and adds depth to the right side of the camera; I find that the knurled knob tends to rest in the palm of my hand. I never grip the mounted lens. The only drawback (apart from the added weight around your neck, which is of course lens-choice dependent) is that vertical shooting is slightly more awkward. The Lens Carrier-M itself is light, btw. I also add a body cap (I always tend to have one handy becaues I also use b2b coupling rings) and use it to store small things inside, like a lens cloth. Finally, I have amended one body cap with the addition of a tripod mount; this makes a good, centralised anchor-point for a monopod or stringpod. Simples Regards, Bill

If you are asking whether I use the lens as a grip, the answer is no.
abrewer Posted April 7, 2011 Author Share #2128 Posted April 7, 2011 My personal take is the carrier thing kind of defeats the purpose of light and stealthy (which is where I like to be)
peter_n Posted April 11, 2011 Share #2129 Posted April 11, 2011 It's interesting to note that MPs still have the Leicameter groove in the shutter speed dial, even though they have a built in meter. I'd not noticed that before.Hmm. I've just realized that I have a replacement shutter speed dial on one of my MPs that doesn't have the cutout for the meter. It came from Leica a couple of years ago and the numbers were not filled with paint, so all the paint is black. Must be old stock or something? Welcome, dear visitor! peter_n Posted April 12, 2011 Share #2131 Posted April 12, 2011 You have the usual dial. Pete All this is way too confusing for me. My MP3 has a cutout in the dial, Andy says the regular MP has it too (post #2117).

The MP-Classic and MP-3 are both limited Editions and the only MPs that have the cut-out-dial. All other (regular and limited) have the "normal" dial.

This classic MP is by far my favorite MP (if I could afford one). Simple look without any meter reminds me of classic Leica. I wonder wether the frame lines are also simple framelines like M3/MP(first generation)/M2. I also wish it had a self timer.
bill Posted April 13, 2011 Share #2136 Posted April 13, 2011 So, writing as an MP and M2 user I don't see the point of paying the MP premium for what is essentially an M2..? Regards, Bill

Regards, Bill Hi Bill Less is more, kiss But you correct on another plane it is simpler buying a M2 unless you need a motor or Leicavit, & the M2 can do IXMOO. farnz Posted April 13, 2011 Share #2140 Posted April 13, 2011 I think that you will find that an M2 has brass gears too. I had understood that, amongst other things, the M2 was produced as a less expensive version of the M3 so I presumed it would have steel gears. Have I got that wrong? Pete.
