RITskellar Posted January 4, 2009 Share #842 Posted January 4, 2009 Some people open an envelope every month and look at their retirement fund. RIT just spreads his out on the floor and takes a picture of it You're more right than you might think. Everything I got is in the cameras and the house. One of them is a necessity, the other I just live in. Cheers, Andy

KM-25 Posted January 10, 2009 Share #846 Posted January 10, 2009 You are asking for my favorite? Mailing Photo?Yesss, I can!!! Amazing...I hope my re-painted M3 looks like that in 20 years after hard use, but I doubt very much our MP 3's would do that, the paint is really top notch on that camera. enboe Posted January 11, 2009 Share #847 Posted January 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) So, I have finished my quest to try all the major M variants, and the MP is king, in my opinion. Over the past few months, I shot several rolls each with an M1, M2, M3, M4, M4-2, M4-P, M5, M6, M6TTL, M7, and MP. The classics, M1 through M4-P are all nice machines, but none are smoother or better finished than my modern MP. The finders are no comparison, and being left-eyed, I find the Leicameter MR series to be a bit of a pain in the forehead. The M5 is a weird beast, definitely Leica quality, but different in handling. No, I would not be offended at calling an M5 my only Leica, I just prefer the classic size. The M6 and M6TTL are good machines, very close to the MP. Only small refinements in smoothness, the anti-flare finder, smoother chroming, and a little tighter tolerances separate the MP, but the differences are there. If there is one camera that my MP should worry about, it is my well-broken in M7. Now that I have the DX code issues resolved and the MP finder upgrade, it is as smooth and bright to look through. The DX code reader and a couple of inopportune battery failures are the primary distractors that bring it a hair below the MP in desirability. So, if I have to pick just one Leica, it would be an MP/0.72. I wonder if anyone still has the Japanese-market MP Titanium available for a reasonable price? I could free up some space in the bag and consolidate down to one or two film M's. Enjoy! Eric

I see it the same way, all M bodies are very well made and precise instruments, but of them all finally the MP is king. Long live the MP Robert

alun Posted January 14, 2009 Share #858 Posted January 14, 2009 At the risk of bringing the world down around my ears, can I also say that I find those black paint MPs just too....shiny.... And less than inconspicuous. (OK, yes, I'll admit that if I could find a black paint 0.58 I'd buy it!) Generally, though, there's something about the black chrome finish that to me is just more in keeping with an industrial design aesthetic...
RITskellar Posted January 14, 2009 Share #859 Posted January 14, 2009 Leica Camera Forum -- showing on the laptop? Yup. I find those black paint MPs just too....shiny.... And less than inconspicuous. Generally, though, there's something about the black chrome finish that to me is just more in keeping with an industrial design aesthetic... I actually agree. I bought one just for the allure of black paint. But I still prefer my black chrome versions when doing most of my shooting. Cheers, Andy
newsgrunt Posted January 14, 2009 Share #860 Posted January 14, 2009 Leica Camera Forum -- showing on the laptop? Thanks alun ! I was thrown a bit as the LCF skin on his laptop looks different from any version I can see. I actually agree. I bought one just for the allure of black paint. But I still prefer my black chrome versions when doing most of my shooting. Cheers, Andy lol. I just sold my black chrome and replacing it with a bp MP. Kept the chrome one though. thanks all
