My MP, taken with my new (to me) M10 Monochrom. What a mind blowing camera. I’ve wanted one for years and am over the moon to have one. I think it’ll make a good pairing with the MP. Done buying cameras for a very long time now!

Here’s a bonus, at 50,000 ISO. Ridiculous. Both taken with the 50 ‘Lux ASPH at f/1.4.

x

Two weeks today I pick up my MP from the store in London. VERY EXCITED to say the least.

I went back and forth on a possible strap but can't yet decide if I want a very short, wear it like a necklace strap or if I want something a bit more flexible and longer.

FWIW I use an Artisans & Artist black silk strap. It’s long enough and comfortable to wear around the neck (although I don’t) and flexible enough to use as a wrist strap which is usually what I do.

You could go with the Artisan & Artist Easy slider if you’re not sure which length you’d prefer yet. Congrats on getting an MP soon, you’ll love it! It is the best feeling camera to use that I’ve ever used.

Thanks for the strap recommendations, I will take a look!

Yeah, I think its the feel of the Leica's I'm most excited about, and the portability. Most of my work I used a Canon R5 and some big lenses, so this will be so compact in comparison!

The only downside is I'm getting it for my 40th birthday 😅

Hi all, I've just placed an order for a slightly used (2022) black paint MP, should be here in a week or so.  I'm coming from owning a couple of digital Leicas, an M3 and a medium format TLR.

I think if the MA came in black paint I would have gone down that road, but having owned all black-chrome digital cameras (other than the M11) I've decided that I really like the black paint finish, and if I'm going to keep the MP for decades I really wanted to get the finish I liked the most. The black chrome is fine, but I don't really like the way it feels in hand... it's the little things I guess!

My M3 needs to be sent off for CLA and I really didn't feel like being without a film Leica for a few months so made the decision to get a near-new MP and make it my daily carry going forward. Look forward to sharing some images in the future and learning more about the camera over the coming months.

I like how everyone (including me) buying MP in 2020s plans to keep it for decades, never sell it, pass it to kids etc...and my kids couldn't be less interested in photography :D

You never know.  I grew up with a father who was serious about photography, we had a darkroom in our house, etc.  I had zero interest in photography at that time. Now, as an adult, it's become a huge part of my life.  So, it's possible they could form an interest in photography at some point.  At least they'll have a heck of a camera to get started with if they do!

This was my decision also awhile ago when I got the MP.

I think black chrome looks really cool, but my M10 already has it. So the MP had to be the special one I got that is black paint. And as it is my for life camera, it just looks better the more it is used and aged.

Great choice, enjoy!

My grandfather was an enthusiastic amateur, and often carried an Olympus clamshell camera and owned a Pentax Spotmatic. He gave each of his five children a camera. And in each of their families, at least one grandchild is interested in photography. In his younger days, Dad bought lots of camera magazines and took a darkroom developing course, but it wasn't for some years that I became deeply engaged with photography. So yes, photography can be a cross generational interest that surfaces at later times.

I have a BP MP .58, just because that is the finish that was available at that time.  But the silver is gorgeous too, and when I look at my M3 in it’s standard silver chrome, there is just something so classic and elegant about the look.  The original intention of black cameras was for photo journalism/news reportage to make them more discrete.

I have changed the skin on my M3 to a blue leather because the old vulcanite crumbled, and if you are into that sort of thing a silver body goes really well with so many different colours, while IMO a black body only looks good with black leather.  So when I look at a silver MP I just think that would look great with an olive green skin, or a Hermes medium brown, or…

Silver Ms look superb with leather in different colours. The rich brown ostrich seen on some a la carte models is lovely, as is the deep red on the Ginza M9-P. My choice would be a dark textured brown, or deep blue if possible.
